The more I think about it, the more Hukou system makes sense. The west abolished these type of restriction and it is causing serious problems. These kind of old systems exists for a reason, and we abolished them for sake of liberty without a second thought. There should be some restrictions for migration to prevent chaos, primarily for high tier cities.
Aren't they phasing it out??

To curb the displacement of great American workers™ by foreign imports in the US labor market, President Donald J. Trump just announced his decision to impose an $100,000 annual fee on H-1B visas.

Not to say that Big Daddy Trump is necessarily targeting workers or immigrants from any specific country or region, but according to

, 71% of all H-1B visas are held by Indians as of fiscal year 2024.

Unsurprisingly, share prices of two major Indian IT outsourcing companies immediately fell in response to this news:

Knew it was going to be something like this, I mentioned it earlier in this thread they actually can't do too much to H1-Bs without going through Congress but they got a few levers they can pull.

Honestly think this is the least controversial policy for Trump.
H1-Bs only really useable in this case if a company is looking to pick up a hot-shot researcher or exec instead of filling out an Indian IT contracting job.

Immigration isn't a problem. North America was entirely built on immigrants. They came from diverse backgrounds which caused friction. The issue is that that over the past ~40 or so years White people in North America have become convinced that North America was always White and that the Golden Age of North America was during a period of when White people were most prevalent. They don't care to learn that during this so called Golden Age, White people discriminated against other Whites on top of people of colour!

Yes you had institutionalized racism against African American's, but the developments since the first Trump administration point to a more universal anti-White movement.

Outside of that, these people have become indoctrinated into an extremely Laissez-faire (neo-liberal) form of capitalism. In which the government has basically no part in regulating industry, healthcare or any part of society as a whole.

It is loosening for uncompetitive cities. It makes no sense to restrict people settling when it is already being drained.

In some tier 1 cities it has only become tighter.

I am not advocating migration control for sake of it. I view it as something like Chinese economic system: benign control of natural process to balancing out its negative tendencies. Swarming into better city makes sense at individual level, but can be bad for the country.

Keeping Hukou going will be considered one of the best moves China has made long term and clear differentiator between China and other developing countries suffering from Big city ills and too many slums.

Cause it prevents too much buildup in a handful of big cities, help spread out talent and development into broader areas of inland China. This reduces cost in those tier 1 cities and also reduces congestion. Ultimately, China needs to ensure all of its provinces and regions have similar levels of prosperity and have atleast one city that is as advanced as tier 1 cities.

The more development is spread out, the more GDP per capita will rise without too much inflation.

Talk about shooting themselves in the foot.
