India is pretty dependent on the U.S. too. Really boils down to how smart Trump advisors are — all they need to do is to tax US remittance to India 50 percent.

In many negotiations India wanted first world countries to accept more Indian immigrants because they earn a lot from remittances. Their services sector also benefit from having Indians abroad to enter new markets.

Seems like apple will be buying magnets from MP materials.

MP materials ramped up from 2017 to mining then processing neodymium refining and magnet production. Magnet production started just this year

I wonder how many Chinese rare earth engineers they poached to ramp up this production ?

Those with more knowledge, are neodymium magnets the main bottle neck for car and phone and motor production or they need a whole variety of magnets that still only china can produce?

Does Shenghe Resources, a Chinese company, still own part of MP Materials? Is China going to tax all iphones made with non-Chinese magnets?

You should worry more about China. Trump is unpredictable, whatever agreement you made with him may become a piece of wastepaper in a tick.

Um ... no. Absolutely not.

After the silliness in April this year, the Americans will not try again.

Not with China.

In fact, the American economy may not have recovered from Liberation Day.

The first quarter the American economy contracted like about -2%. The economy grew in the second quarter about +2%.

Now it is coming clear, through research from people digging through stuff, that most of the grow numbers were due to the capital spending for data centers to run the AI, and that is on historical proportions.

Seems like the Americans have embarked on a two speed economy, of high tech of chips and AI programming. Everyone else is living paycheque to paycheque.
