This seems to be aimed more at a particular US EV company and its high profile CEO than at China.
Before we have Daddy Superman, now we have Screaming Eagles Raining Greenbacks on the White House Lawn.
I am now convinced that everyone in the U.S. died in 2020 from COVID and/or intravenous administration of bleach and are in hell right now…
A corny, low production value hell
The Devil is American, and he has clearly outsourced the implementation of Hell's various delights to India.
I, for one, am looking forward to what brilliant ideas our Orange Overlord will conjure up next. Maybe he will raise even more tariffs on Vietnam in a year's time while lowering tariffs on China, just to screw with people who moved manufacturing from China to Vietnam?
This will be challenging if the Trump administration erects too many roadblocks (e.g. refuse visas to employees of Chinese subcontractors, impose inflated tariffs against Chinese made rolling stock, CFIUS project on natsec grounds); and it'll also require quite a bit of effort on the part of CREC given the abbreviated timeline.
However, If Gavin Newsom really wants to one up Trump, his office should reach out to immediately, and see if they can construct an HSR in California prior to the end of his term in January 2027.
Infrastructure development is something the US has visibly fallen behind on, and TBF, a practical issue that concerns both elites and the hoi polloi. Everyone and their dog know Newsom is running for president in 2028, and getting an HSR built in record time would scream competence — a rare quality among American politicians these days — before voters.
Though to discourage Trump from derailing such an HSR project with administrative and regulatory hurdles, Newsom will likely need to convince Trump that he's "scamming the ChiComs" or "ripping off Winnie the Pooh" in the spirit of and as homage to !
