EU will be rich with Chinese goods?? Respond to me again when EU signs a free trade deal with China.

And yes the smaller countries are nothing.

We regularly look down on the Koreans, Vietnamese etc. To quote some of the past comments from this forum: “the entire manufacturing capacity of Vietnam is smaller than one province in China.” So Trump is right, they are nothing.
What kind of response is this? Are you handicapped in reading comprehension? Did you not understand that the part about the EU being rich with Chinese goods is that they can threaten that, because the US has been nothing but a parasitic pain to them and their economies, and that the US and EU economies naturally fail to complement because they are both consumption-driven? This is the leverage they have over the US at negotiations, NOT what has already happened. If the EU threatens to sign with China and cut off trade with the US, America's economy, choked off from both China and the EU, is dead in the water. They can demand anything and you'd have to oblige; all they need is the spine to demand it.

The smaller countries aren't nothing anymore; Bessent's begging them to the be the first mover! "Come on, step on up! Anybody! One step forward! Raise your hand! Give me any sign! The best deals to the first movers! Don't be shy! I need you all to help me corner China." Crickets...

China has done more and more business with these smaller countries; our number 1 market is ASEAN. With both US and EU markets gone, China still has over 70% of our export market. So you are nothing, not them. And if you fuck up this trade deal with China, they will be getting larger and larger slices of the world pie while the predatory, non-producing Western countries go into atrophy angrily screaming at why nobody wants to make shit for them anymore. Because we all know that your workers all want everything to be made in America but everyone's too lazy to be the one making it.

Indeed, they will. If EU trade with America decreases, the EU surplus will be eliminated and in this way there will be no more EU dollar investments in the US, which is what maintains the dollar's hegemony.

This means an even stronger euro competing with the dollar, which could be even more relevant if EU-China trade intensifies.

The problem with this thinking is that this is unlikely to happen, the EU is a vassal of Washington, Brussels is the one who rules in Europe, even if Germany wants to strengthen the euro's presence in the global market, intensify trade with China and South America (Mercosur), as the German finance minister himself defended, this will not happen because the one who really rules is Brussels and these politicians are all vassals of Washington.

First of all I don’t think that was his point, you seem to be quite selective in your reading and assessment of what he wrote.

Secondly, should the EU chooses not to sign whatever deal with the US, it is an automatic US lost, due to failing the entire objective of the exercise.

Thirdly, what he is saying actually make a lot of sense, Trump has either intentionally or unintentionally leaked part of, if not the entire purpose of this whole trade war, this in the form of the isolation of China, therefore his entire tariff strat is basically done as leverage. The EU only needs to deny this single objective and Trump’s trade war is done and frankly his hand is not very strong, with regards to this particular point, the EU needs to have a relationship with China far more than they do with the US. Therefore the leverage is on the EU’s side.

The smaller countries might not amount to much individually but they collectively is different story, also even here the US’s hand is weaker than China’s, the US seeks to have manufacturing onshore in US, meaning the market that the US represents will mean nothing, because ultimately manufacturing and industry will have nothing to do with those smaller countries.

At the same time China is still a growing market and eventually some of the lower end industries will have to go off shore, so the smaller countries that are still on the industrialisation path still have a chance that the US will not present and even deny to them. Again there is simply no upside with the US, no matter how you try to look at it.

The tariff is ultimately a here and now problem, but what the US wants is a long term problem with little to no upside even in short term with lower tariffs, since remember the tariffs are not going away no matter what is being negotiated.
We keep on talking up this point of trump leaked his objective. Thus weakened his leverage.

His primary objective is China. No secret here. EU, China, Japan etc… surprised by that?

China was the main focus during past negotiations with all of these countries.

What's this? You're pretending to be stupid or you really still don't get it? A person whom you expressed admiration to for being a strong negotiator just insulted all of his clients, repeated those insults, and then let leak that he needs all of them on board to help him isolate his main competitor, who is a larger dealer than him to most of these clients. And now he can't get any of them to sign jack shit despite supposedly coming to talk for over a week.

You think that's supposed to happen? That's not stupid? LOL

Any evidence of that happening in the last 8 years?

If anything EU willingly put their own economies at risk by ripping out Huawei, banning select Chinese investments, tariffs on Chinese EVs, etc… Who told them to do all that?

So no EU is not going to “cut off trade with America”. Loll.

lol, you still think it’s leaked. The rest of the world must be really stupid to not see that one coming.

—If what you say is true regarding loss of leverage bc Trump leaked his plan to contain China, then these other countries should’ve immediately cancelled their plan to negotiate.

—That would have given them leverage. Wait for America to come to them. Yet…….they still coming.

Line them up.

No. Trump has never been this stupid. This is a record even for him, and we're gonna see where that record leads. You seem to be stuck in the past, and I don't blame you, because as an American you will reminisce a lot seeing as every day will be tougher than yesterday for your country.

Brandon.

LOL You still don't get that this is an 'if" situation. They can if they have the brains to recognize that you're totally cooked without them and have the spine to use all that leverage against you. And if they don't, if they side with the US, China will cook your entire Western civilization together in one pot. Cus we make all the stuff, everything from 99 cent trinkets to semiconductors while you make nothing but fiat money and noise, and you're too lazy and stupid to change.

America started this whole bullshit because even with massive, almost insurmountable advantage of the USD as the world's reserve currency, its economy and technology were both being run down by China. It can print as much USD as it wants and use that to buy the labor of everyone around the world, subsidizing the American lifestyle of living beyond it means. That's as good of a deal as it gets. Right now, America's so desperate from losing to China, it just wants to change anything to have a chance... but it's so stupid, it's about the change the only thing that was an actual advantage for itself. If you shake up global trade and confidence in the US and the USD, your last advantage is dead and China runs you over like a steamroller over a coke can- don't get too excited, American! I meant Coca-Cola, not cocaine.

If they have leverage... then they cancel the negotiations??? LOLOL Nooo, you sound about as good at negotiating as Trump. If I have leverage, I use that leverage to negotiate a better deal for myself. Why do I cancel?

Well that’s the point tho, if China was always the objective then launching the tariff nuke was the stupidest play in ever, instead of actually just work with the allies and/or negotiate first, he threatens his allies to try to gain leverage but with no upside to negotiate with.

So what is it? Tariffs, re-shoring, China, what? What was the point? If he wants all 3 then he has lost as soon as the tariff nuke was launched, trust in the US is basically dead, he is not going to get a consensus on China with EU, unless the US breeds bad, and if the US then waves off whatever they agreed tothen it’s finished whatever last bit of trust is gone.

As things are now, the EU will definitely leave themselves a way out already, there is no way they will agree to such a restrictive agreement with some major guarantees and concessions. The days of just going along for the ride is basically dead and Trump killed it.

The Huawei thing was to appease the US, but that was with the understanding that the US will have their back, but that’s not the case anymore.

Blocking select Chinese investment is both appeasement and self security, now at least one of the major reason is gone.

Tariffs on Chinese EV, that just self serving, the have a major auto industry, of course they will protect it. Nothing surprise here.

EU is not cutting off trade with the US but it sure as hell not going to act as it has… again the situation now is completely different to the situation at the time of any of the events you have presented.

Why not cancel. America needs us so badly to contain China. We cancel, America will come begging anyway.

EU is weak, divided, and a vassal when it comes to foreign policy.

If Trump leaves in 3.5 years and another president tries to make amends, EU will gladly oblige.
