to me it is interesting that the Chinese military leadership was able to convince the navy to give up this much capability before it has acquired sufficient number of carriers. if this were the US, one can only imagine the outcry coming from the naval services...

PLA is an arm of the CPC, not the other way around. When Xi Jinping became the president, one of the first things he did is to reaffirm the party’s control of the PLA

yes and Biden is the commander in chief of all three services. but power and influence work both ways. in the US i think it would be quite difficult to ask one service to make so much sacrifice. here Xi demonstrated that he has good control over the PLA, if he (through the military leadership) can ask the navy to give up so many aircrafts (which also means giving up personnel, real estate in the form of air fields etc.), it is certainly a good thing for the PLA. however, i also suspect that there were compensations promised to the navy, in the form of more vessels or whatever.

Jiang Zeming told the PLA to give up all its vast business empire and the PLA obeyed his command. The Chinese government is an effective organization that can implement policies that are painful in the short term but good for the long term. The reason why the Hegemon fear it so much.

For many years, naval pilots have been entrusted to air force pilot schools for training. In the last 20 years, the Navy began to independent train its own pilots.

All along, due to insufficient training capabilities, fighter pilots in the naval aviation force have been trained by the Air Force. Due to the different combat and training tasks undertaken by the sea and air forces, the adaptation cycle for trainees to the naval force is longer. In 2005, in order to meet the needs of the new situation, the Naval Flight Academy began to independently cultivate naval fighter pilots without existing experience and support technology.

Hopefully the transfer won't lead to a slackening of training in anti-shipping missions by land based aircraft and development of such systems.

What's the pros and cons of such transfer? Does that mean PLANAF won't have anymore land-based fighters?
