Yes, this is great, there's some racism there. Nice to stir the pot, to throw out mild provocations and occasional insults, sarcasm etc, sprinkled with lot's of LOL's, and just wait until someone crosses a certain line. Perhaps @siegecrossbow can examine the whole conversation, which starts some 10 pages back, so see what role various people play. Otherwise, the moderator risks being used for someone's agenda.

As much as possible.

In western coporations, the amount spent on R&D is small, despite what the MSM says.

This is because of short term thinking. Most of the directors are on short term contract, say 2 to 5 years. So why should they be worry about be benefits and income in the future. They definately worry about cost today, which affects their bottom line and their big fat bonuses (I know some R&D gets amortised, and some coporations offered shares that encourage directors to invest in R&D)! But these inducement is not enough in my view!

My chief concern in this subforum is the blind nationalism and even Han chauvinism (which apparently was not successfully dealt with by Mao) expressed by a number of Chinese people posting here. Ironically, some of the staments I read here are very much in line with the Nationalist China mainlander thinking/behaviour of the mid 20th century. This retrograde mentality breeds irrationality, greatly diminishing the quality of discussions on this forum.
I think you will find that only a very limited number of members here are mainlanders with no or minimal exposure to the west, its tendencies, and its history. It is much more likely that a majority are either born, raised, studying, studied, worked, or are working in the west.

Somehow, the current fiasco between the 2 countries doesn't look like a negotiation. Looks more like "I want to remain top dog, and this is what you're gonna swallow for me to achieve my goal".

Absolutely, but I don't think the top dog is getting it all his way. Which is why Trump and his lackies are foaming round their mouths.

It's much bigger than any negotiations. The top two powers are fighting for world domination... You are looking at a war... Both sides are using every ammo they can access to gain an upper hand and win a war. Like any war, it's about winning with acceptable level of casualty to yourself. It's about your ability to throw punches and your ability to take hits. It's about finding mismatches and take advantages of your opponents' weaknesses. It's not about logic. It's not about being fair.

Yes, is not fair, cries Trump! So we will lie, cheat and bully to get our way!

But Ren is slick. He said he wouldn't but he did. He said making everything by yourself is peasant mentality, so Trump's analysts thought they'd catch an old fool flat-footed only to find that he'd been having secret meetings the whole the time about his spare tire projects! Unless Ren meant it at the time and then changed his mind right after, this would be a very Sun Tzu moment. After the US was purposefully misled to believe that a tech ban would fry Huawei, it implemented the tactic only to find that it is not only ineffective but has fallen into the trap of creating simultaneously distrust in China of foreign parts and a gaping need in China's domestic market, finally galvanizing China's tech powers to invest in core technologies. Nothing that Beijing could do would move these lazy greedy gluts so Ren tricked the US to do Beijing's dirty work. Well, that's one hell of a story and I don't know how smart Ren is, but if he planned all this using Huawei as bait, then he would easily be the Zhu Geliang of this century.

If Huawei did have plans, it's one shrewed company, also the signal now sending all over China is priceless. This could be the turning point in the world of geopolitic!

Didn't you say you wanted to get to know Chinese people? What's the matter, you don't like what you see when we are free to speak our minds on the internet? You prefer the Chinese people of your imagination perpetuated by the level of conversation you get to have in the office?

"I don't care about country; I just want to earn money to buy things and live well with my family!"

"Country? I love this country because it's so beautiful and easy to live in!"

"China's got a lot of problems; Chinese people are mean!"

Those empty conversations you had with Chinese people got you thinking we've got no fighting spirit and now you're shocked to find what we really think, eh? Guess what? We have way different conversations when everyone's Chinese.

I think he needs to get out more! It kinda remind me of George Bush junior, during his election campaign, when he admitted he never left the US or only been to Mexico or something (my memory is not what it used to be).

It sort of show how insula some people are, and most of their experiences of foreigners are from their contact at home or through their TV and MSM.

What does he expect from Chinese people who visit a military forum? If we wants to hear shit about China he should go visit some expat forum.

Like it or not, I have to accept it. In a way, it's good to see this side as well.

FYI, I also have conversations with Chinese people outside the office and I would hardly call them empty. But they're not exactly a representative sample, given how they are either researchers at academic institutions or at industry R&D departments, and at least 80% of them hold a PhD.
