I think it is more psychological See Germany does not have colony and their home market is small So they have to export their excess production. And overcoming their comfort zone they have to expand overseas.
And Explore market all over the world. The public news and school support this program by exposing the population to wider world. The TV program is full of documentary and discussion which will bored the Anglos world of TV program.
Then as they prosper in 60 and 70's The experience this "Reise Welle" or Travel fever They roam all over the world
I remember in the 80's I encountered young German tourist in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore.
So they are better exposed to the world
Their university is practically free of charge and they accept and recognize number of SEA diploma and certification. so there are large body of foreign student in German university. Now here is the difference the German student are curious and want to know about the rest of the world
While in Anglo saxon countries they expect you to conform to their world view and lifestyle. And they think there is nothing worth for them to learn from the rest of the world.
The German made a good product because their home market demand it No shoddy workmanship here
Because Craftsmanship is still revered . They have this Lerlinge program where for every trade they have to go thru long apprenticeship program resulting in highly skilled craftsman.
I am not saying there is no racism,prejudice and intolerant in German university or in life But at least they are curious and want to know more . It make for an opening While other it is just no interest!
Of course they know Chinese work hard and have generally keep their side of the bargain which they also shared

I visited Tsingdao ( used to be a German colony ) a few years back. I was impressed with the infrastructure built by the Germans, particularly the decades-old water drainage system which is still being used today. The locals also did not speak ill of the Germans who seemed to be quite benevolent towards the governed local populace, unlike certain ugly and cruel neighbour of China.

Not everyone in the anglosohere is aligned with trump on the China drama. People are naturally inclined to respond emotionally and negatively to anything that threatens their personal structures. The structures they've spent their lives adapting to and become accepting of. Despite this, there is actually a good amount of rationality behind the divisive rhetoric that some continue to propel. The struggle is in how these voices multiply and this is where western propaganda has a major role. I fully believe there are various groups pulling the strings in manipulating popular opinion. It also seems like they often work against each other.
Having said that the main effort observed is wholly anti-china. At least what modern China stands for in their minds ie robot drones serving an authoritarian government to oppose the justice that the "free world" is applying to right the world.

In the past it is often Chinese state media that fans and flares nationalistic emotions and try to make use of patriotism to fight foreign adversaries. Remember the burning of Japanese cars anyone? I think since then both the Chinese state and the Chinese people have grown a lot more mature on the topic of nationalism.
I have been observing Chinese propaganda and Chinese people's reactions on the trade war online for the past month since the trade talks broke apart, and I'm pleasantly surprised to say that this time around there isn't much irrational rhetoric coming from Beijing. Amid all those calls for unity there are always words that say "we must keep open our doors and embrace the rest of the world" and "innovation and technological independence does not mean re-inventing every wheel before us". Ren Zhengfei's words on these topics echoed and propelled such arguments as well.
The consensus now among the Chinese media and people seem to be this: the US is blocking us off and shutting its doors to us, but we can't be easily defeated and need to work harder to replace American technologies that's no longer accessible. However, at the same time, we need to work with the rest of the world and keep on open mind and do not let our emotions best us.
Many others are also mocking and making fun of the US and saying all these blocking of Huawei just shows a lack of confidence by the Americans.
