The amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) arrives in Limassol, Cyprus to conduct scheduled mid-deployment voyage repairs and bilateral training with the Republic of Cyprus national guard, Oct. 4, 2024. The training, set to take place from September to early November, was coordinated with the Government of the Republic of Cyprus and is designed to strengthen the operational capabilities of both forces and reaffirm the strong security cooperation and commitment to regional stability between the U.S. and Cyprus. The 24th MEU (SOC) and Wasp Amphibious Ready Group are on a scheduled deployment to U.S. Naval Forces Europe and Africa area of operations to support U.S., Allied, and partner interests in the region, including in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. The “Red Lancers” of Patrol Squadron (VP) 10 participated in exercise Kakadu alongside the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and nine other partner and allied nations, Sept. 8-20. The “Red Lancers” of VP-10 are based in Jacksonville, Florida, and are currently on a rotational deployment operating from multiple locations including Misawa Air Base in Misawa, Japan. The squadron conducts maritime patrol and reconnaissance as well as theater outreach operations, supporting Commander, Task Force 72, U.S. Seventh Fleet, and U.S. Indo-Pacific Command objectives throughout the Indo-Pacific region. 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy’s largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

Ok silly question. How does the Navy determine the formation between sailors and marines?
Silly answer..I don't know. I've seen photos where the man the rail personell were divided equally. That happens on a fully manned LHA/LHD or LPD.

When I served the only Marines we had on board were those Marines assigned to the Marine Detachment(MARDET). On CVs their job was to guard the "Special Weapons", run the Brig, provide orderlies for the Captain, Executive officer and Admiral if there was one on board.

On the carriers I served aboard the (MARDET) manned the bow of the flight deck for man the rails.
