U.S. Navy Sailors and guests pose for a photo in front of a P-3C Orion at Naval Air Station (NAS) Whidbey Island, Washington, during a sundowning ceremony hosted by Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron (VQ) 1, Feb. 20, 2025. The Navy began a seven-year transition from the P-3C Orion to the P-8A Poseidon in 2012. All of the active-duty P-3 squadrons successfully transitioned to the P-8 by the Spring of 2020. VQ-1, the ‘World Watchers,’ flew the P-3C Orion and a series of EP-3 Aries from 1969-2025. The final P-3 on NAS Whidbey Island was utilized by VQ-1 as a pilot proficiency training aircraft. Aircraft 588, which departed NAS Whidbey Island on Feb. 21, 2025, was the last P-3 platform to operate from the base when it departed on its final flight.(Photo by Petty Officer 2nd Class Jacquelin Frost)

PHILIPPINE SEA (February 28, 2025) – Boatswain’s Mate 2nd Class Luis Serrano from Riverside, California, directs an MH-60S assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 4 the “Black Knights” as it lands in the flight deck of the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Ralph Johnson (DDG 114) while underway in the Philippine Sea, Feb. 28. Ralph Johnson is forward deployed and assigned to Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 15, the Navy’s largest DESRON and the U.S. 7th fleet’s principal surface force. NAVAL BASE GUAM (Feb. 3, 2025) – Sailors assigned to the Virginia-class fast-attack submarine USS Minnesota (SSN 783) guide a Mark 48 ADCAP (Advanced Capability) torpedo during a weapons offload onboard Naval Base Guam, Feb. 3, 2025. Assigned to Commander, Submarine Squadron 15, based at Polaris Point, Naval Base Guam, Minnesota is one of five forward-deployed fast-attack submarines. Renowned for their unparalleled speed, endurance, stealth, and mobility, fast-attack submarines are the backbone of the Navy’s submarine force. Regarded as apex predators of the sea, Guam’s fast-attack submarines serve at the tip of the spear, helping to reaffirm the submarine force's forward-deployed presence in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific. In preparation for NASA's Artemis II crewed mission, which will send four astronauts around the Moon and beyond in the Orion spacecraft, NASA and the Department of Defense will conduct a series of tests to demonstrate and evaluate the processes, procedures, and hardware used in recovery operations for crewed lunar missions. The Ohio-class ballistic-missile submarine USS Nevada (SSBN 733) arrives at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor following routine operations, Feb. 24, 2025.
