ARABIAN SEA (June 1, 2019) The Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and a U.S. Air Force B-52H Stratofortress assigned to the 20th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron, and part of the Bomber Task Force deployed to the region, conduct joint exercises in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility. The demonstration of flexible and adaptable joint operations shows U.S. military forces are prepared to respond to contingencies and defend the interest in the region. With Abraham Lincoln as the flagship, deployed strike group assets include staffs, ships and aircraft of Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 12, Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 2, the guided-missile cruiser USS Leyte Gulf (CG 55) and Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 7. MAYPORT, Fla. (May 16, 2019) Boatswain’s Mate 1st Class Dustin Stone, acting as the landing signalman enlisted (LSE) signals to the pilot which direction to fly to safely clear the Freedom-class littoral combat ship USS Milwaukee (LCS 5). With simulators and training ships, like USS Milwaukee, the crews of littoral combat ships can be certified without being on their own hull, which allows for the crews to transfer almost seamlessly and lets the ship remain on station longer for increased presence. ARABIAN SEA (May 31, 2019) Gunner’s Mate 1st Class Brandon Ahrens, from Littleton, Colo., fires a shot line to the dry cargo and ammunition ship USNS Cesar Chavez (T-AKE 14) during a replenishment-at-sea aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Bainbridge (DDG 96). Bainbridge is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet areas of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and Pacific through the Western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points. Carney, forward-deployed to Rota, Spain, is on its sixth patrol in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in support of regional allies and partners as well as U.S. national security interests in Europe and Africa. ENGLISH CHANNEL (May 27, 2019) – U.S. Sailors man the rails of the Blue Ridge-class command and control ship USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20) to commemorate Memorial Day off the coast of Normandy, France, May 27, 2019. This year’s Memorial Day marks the 75th anniversary of World War II highlighting partnerships forged which endure today as U.S. forces in Europe remain steadfast in their commitment to European Allies and partners. Mount Whitney, forward deployed to Gaeta, Italy operates with a combined crew of U.S. Sailors and Military Sealift Command civil service mariners in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in support of U.S. national security interests in Europe and Africa.
