Re: Today's US Navy Hi-res Photos!

Someday maybe another navy on this planet will be able to do this..

Only one Navy in the World can do this with an 92,000 - 100,000 ton displacement ship..The US Navy..

Re: Today's US Navy Hi-res Photos!

It would take "umpteen" years for any Navy to reach the standards & experiences of the US Navy and the Royal Navy (unfortunately currently effected by defence cuts) to operate aircraft carriers. In Asia, the Japanese had that experience (although bitter ones) during WWII, and now the JMSDF & the ROK Navy operate "helicopter-destroyers" (small carriers). High training standards are important, and actual operational experiences with aircraft flying etc. take a very long time to achieve.

So how do you actually drift it with a ship this size? Any insider tips popeye.

Not being a deck seaman I really don't know. I just know that the USN can maneuver a CVN in any manner they desire.

Popeye, i see a jet on deck, when they perform a "rudder turns", how do they prevent that the jet moves? Is the jet anchored on the deck?

Yes it is tied down with tie down chains. That just is just a shell used for fire fighting training. It will be several months before the IKE will deploy again after a nine month re-fit.

Check the hi-res for a better view of that Hornet on deck.
