USS Murtha, LPD-26, is the 10th San Antonio Class.
The 11th, USS Portland, LPD-27 was launched in February and will probably be commissioned late next year.
The 12th and final, USS Ft. Lauderdale, LPD-28, is now under construction.
After that, Ingalls will start building the new LX(R) which are the LSD replacement vessels. They will use the same hull and will have improved command and control (C2) features over the LSDs they will replace.
But, they will differ significantly from the San Antonios and will only have, half the medical spaces of the San Antonios, a smaller hangar for stowing two MV-22s, no composite masts, two spots for LCACs or one LCU, a reduced troop capacity (500) and a crew of about 400 sailors.
But they will be a great replacement vessels for the Whidbey ISland and HArper's Ferry LSDs...and will keep Huntingotn Ingalls working for years.
Huntington Ingalls has also provided a ABM derivative of the same hull to carry the larger AEGIS system with DBR and many, many VLS for defense. No word on any approval of that proposal yet.
