Huawei is introducing solar powered base stations in Bangladesh. Not only does it save power, in case of the storm, and power lines are cut, the base stations could still operate.

Also recently the head of China Mobile went to Taiwan for discussions with HTC and other Taiwan companies. I think the idea is to secure contracts to produce Google Android smartphones with OMS for China Mobile's network.

Lenovo, LG, Philips, and a surprise to many people in the US, Dell, are launching their respective OPhones in this event. For those in the dark, OPhone stands for OMS smartphone, OMS stands for Open Mobile System, which in turn is based on Google Android mobile OS, which in turn uses Linux as a kernel.

For these companies, these are their first Android phones, and for Dell, its first smartphone ever.

World's largest network?

You bet.

Something to consider when tracking its financial performance.

Personally I would consider Google managing to get China Mobile to use Android as their basis for OMS for their flagship smartphones, the deal of the year.

Some financial news. Nokia took some major red ink, to the tune of $1.36 billion dollars the last quarter due to losing smartphone sales, and taking a big hit in their networking equipment division, Nokia Siemens.

Sony Ericsson also lost a lot of money. Year to year, their sales are now half as before.
