Things that really bother you

At my old high school in Texas, we used to take the Xmas break, then came back and took the finals for the Fall semester in January. After the finals, we had one day off. Then the Spring semester started...

Not sure if they still do it this way. It's so stupid. We hated it so much. No one can spend the holidays peacefully knowing that you will have the finals coming up in a week...

yep, that's stinks!

That is the same in Alberta for high school. Xmas break is basically a huge study period for finals and trying to finish home work.

It does. And often teachers gave out big projects just before Xmas since we "had lots of time".

Our theory was that the person who came up with this kind of schedule must be either drunk or plain stupid, or both. Or they could simply be evil...

I think it is a matter of poor planning that got carried on. Never had this problem when in Jr. High with the same schedule. Had finals before Xmas, anything in fall term learned after Xmas only represents 10% of the term, so is inconsequential therefore doesn't have to be on the final.

Well, in my case, we finished all the classes before Xmas, took the two-week break, then came back to take the finals... The worst schedule ever... When I went off to college, I was so happy that we could actually finish the entire semester and enjoy the Xmas break with nothing to worry about.

Sorry to say this, Pops, but smart phones are here to stay.

I'm not a fan of social media myself, but smart phones can be used for much more than looking at Facebook.

The most critical use of my smart phone is probably Google Maps. I use it every day for my 1 hour drive to work. It tells me if there are major delays on the road so I can take alternate routes instead of being stuck in traffic. I also use it to listen to audio books while driving.

Smart phone gps makes road trips a breeze. I remember when I was young and my family went on road trips, we would have to consult these huge maps to figure out how to get on the right highway. When it came time to find a restaurant or a motel, we would drive around for 20 minutes asking for directions. None of that is needed when you have a smart phone gps.

You might say you can get directions from an actual gps, but with a smart phone, you also get the internet at your finger tips. You can search for gas stations, and it will display the price of gas at various stations along your route. You can search for a restaurant, and read reviews of the place with a touch. You can search for a store, and it will tell you when its business hours are.

Don't need one. I will never need one. Not even for a map. We have a garmin..To us garmin is much better than a smartphone for maps..it never drops out and is easier to see. The garmin also gives traffic updates and finds gas stations, restaurants etc...etc....what ever you are looking for.

My wife likes the garmin for traveling..AS for me I just look at a map before I go on a trip. Commit said map to memory. I do take a few notes. I have an outstanding memory..:D..and go my merry way.

Garmin is a big help at night & unfamiliar cities. I don't think anyone likes driving in strange places at night. I know I don't.

As far as smart phones are concerned , yes they are here to stay. And will only get better. My wife has two. She's uses it for FB and instagram.....One of them is for back up. ..Hey we still have a landline..yes we do!...I'm just an old foggie!
