The War in the Ukraine

lol.Imagine listening to British "consultants" on how to run a war..
They were right on the broader strategic benefits, but as usual "consultants" are useless when they go into the details..

The attempt to retake Snake Island shows how bad the Ukrainian situation is. It's obvious now the plan was to recapture Snake Island and "upset" Russian Victory Day celebrations. I was waiting to see if Ukrainians were going to claim they've retaken the island, but nope, Russia still holds it.

So a single isolated island occupied by a handful of Russian soldiers managed to wreck multiple Ukrainian attempts to take it. If they can't retake an island they have zero chance of recapturing any major cities.

Not only that, judging by the seniority of the pilots they've confirmed to have lost, they obviously put a lot into it. This is an island that has no significant military value, it's hundreds of miles away from the Russian frontlines. They wasted lives for a propaganda victory and still lost.

That article is ridden with falsehoods. The Su-34 was not manufactured in the early 1990s. It entered service in 2014. The cockpit and avionics aren't the same as those in the initial flyable prototype. Which was basically a dual seater Flanker.
How many "early 1990s" aircraft do you know with a glass cockpit with color LCD panels?

Older aircraft like the Su-25 or early versions of the Su-27, without the upgrades, might still use ad-hock solutions like commercial navigation devices. These devices might even have been used with more advanced aircraft at a certain point in foreign operations like in Syria. The GLONASS network only came back 100% on line in 2011. And even then GLONASS never was as accurate as GPS in lower latitudes. In their own territory it is accurate enough. GLONASS is more accurate than GPS closer to the poles, and less accurate close to the equator.

There were images of Su-34's using garmin GPS's on the dashboard in Syria, so it is not new but it doesn't imply the planes' GLONASS system isn't working, either and not all Su-34's had them, so it might be personal preference of each crew, too.
Syria is further south. GLONASS is more inaccurate there. It also might have been retained by the crew in case GLONASS failed for whatever reason and be used for backup.

It seems fud from one of Johnson's clown, given that Kalibrs don't seem to be lacking on the precision front unless they are taping comercial GPS to them, too. Also the UK seems incredibly invested in this war, for some reason.
Lol. No. Like I said, Ukraine is in the same latitude as territory in the Russian Federation. So GLONASS should have enough accuracy there. And GPS accuracy is shit near the North Pole, so it isn't bulletproof either.

At this point, I'm honestly rather convinced that Putin might actually have gotten spooked by the chance of Ukraine getting nukes.

Which might have been the straw that broke the camels back.

Zelensky and other people from his government going out and saying such.
And as it stands, Ukraine, before the war, would actually be one of the countries which could manufacture nukes by themselves (nukes and nuclear reactors was once made there, not to mention there actually being nuclear reactors in Ukraine, and also ofc older retired specialist who has worked with nuclear reactors and possibly nukes).

Russia would have made a public accusation then? It is a great casus bellis, better than denazification even. They'd also perform strikes on possible nuclear facilities and present those results publicly, there is no reason to hide it at all
