Wait...so where did all the Ukrainian soldiers go? I thought Lisichansk was going to be a tough town to capture because it was on a hill or something?
Withdrew to Siversk. What remained of the AFU were few troops in the city to delay the Russians in cleaning up while reorganizing the Siversk-Artemivsk front. Most troops were evacuated a few days ago, but a large contingent that was in Lisichansk withdrew from the city late Thursday night before the multi-directional assault on the city of Lisichansk.
The AFU had an advantage in Lisichansk if the Russians attacked from Severodonetsk, where Lisichansk's superior position under Severodonetsk allows a tactical advantage in the theater of operations, the problem is that the Russians attacked from the south and southwest front and since yesterday, from from the northern axis, Russian troops stationed in Severodonetsk east of Lisichansk only used artillery that were used to hit AFU troops in Lisichansk.
And are we to believe that 2,000, 5,000 or whatever number of soldiers people were claiming were garrisoning the town all got killed or captured in one day?
There are still troops in Lisichansk, we don't know the exact number because at the moment they are reconnaissance of the pockets that the AFU created with the remnants left in Lisichansk, but it is possible that the AFU number in Lisichansk at this point in the fall is somewhere between 500 to 2,000 soldiers.
