Thanks that explains a lot.

Footages from the front and other things.

New IL-76MD-90A delivered to Russian Aerospace. I'm not sure what the alphabet soup means, or what's the improvements or modernizations just yet.

@gelgoog covered the specs, but the letters stand for, Il-76 Modernizirovaniy (Modernized) Dalniy (Long-Distance) -90A (PS-90A).

So basically, Il-76 Modernized Long-Distance variant with PS-90A engines.

Computer onboard a Kaliber missile looks outdated but the important part is that it's entirely Russian, self produced and sanction proof.

It seems this hit Twitter.

Some of these comments on Twitter are pretty ridiculous. Some in the comments claim the original Texas Instruments chip design of the DSP is from 1983. But that is the intro date of the initial NMOS TMS32010 chip in the family. This Russian chip is a clone of the much later CMOS TMS320C25 chip. A much more powerful chip which came out in 1987 and was improved in 1990. It is as if I bought an Intel 80386 and someone said that is a 1978 chip since that is when the initial 8086 came out. Ridiculous comments of people who know little about what they are talking about.

For reference this Russian L1867VM2 DSP is a 40 MHz chip with 10 MIPS compute power. Some in Twitter joke that it is a 16-bit processor, but that means little since this is a DSP. An Intel 80386 at 33 MHz has 11.4 MIPS compute power and came out in 1989.

Others say this is 1970s chip technology. Well, it isn't, it is more like early 1990s chip technology. And I guess some people think Western weapon systems are much more modern. Well a lot of them aren't. Even the Western military typically uses old proven chip technology that is a decade old by the time the weapon hits production. You can't design a system without having the chips to make the design. And then you have to validate the weapon system. Which would make this something you could see in an early 2000s Western design. Guess when the Iskander and Kalibr came out. 2006 and 1994. So, no, it isn't obsolete by those standards.

The claim this is a chip made in the USSR is also bogus since the clone only came out much later during the Russian Federation. A chip like this would have been slightly beyond what the USSR could fabricate at the time of its demise. East Germany was only able to mass produce their 80286 clone in 1989. The USSR similarly was only able to produce 80286 clones when they collapsed and only few were produced.

Like I said, the Russians used chips that they knew had Russian made substitutes available in the design. When the existing stock of original cheaper imported chips ran out they started using clones of their own production.

This is much cheaper than designing and validating a whole new control computer. Which if production continues to increase they might end up doing eventually. Russia now has much smaller and cheaper embedded ARM processors in production which were not available when these weapons were designed.

More and more western equipments on video these days. Could it be the soviet equipments are running out?

Could be but I still see Soviet equipment. See my previous post, there's still 2S1 Gvozdika aplenty. I gather Ukraine inherited more of this 122mm SPG from the Soviet Union than the Russians did, and this was manufactured by the Kharkhiv tank plant.

True but 155mm artillery is mostly western from what I can see. I am thinking maybe 40-50% howitzer is western now.

Ukraine was in the border area of the USSR against NATO. So they inherited huge amounts of military material.

My understanding is that the US (in particular) are going out internationally and purchasing Soviet equipment as well.

Maybe a major strike against two Army Aviation airfields? …
Now we have some satellite imagery available:
Looks like 5 destroyed (burned down) and 4 damaged airframes in Berdyansk. Luhansk is still unknown but it's enough to say this was the worst day for VKS in this war.

Indeed, by surprise VKS tried to support the ground forces in the area during recent Vuhledar reconstruction - there were reports about that. But it ended quickly. We don't know how much they've lost there but for sure there was damage as those support operations from air ceased in the area together with ineffective ground operation.

EDIT:
Although I don't know from what time this footage is but it seems like they're still trying. Here's pretty scary footage how in a couple of minutes the Russian attack is annihilated.
