The War in the Ukraine

Coup was 100% real and failed cause Prigozhin overestimated the support he had in the government.

Also, no way Prigozhin + friends would have gotten away with an attempted coup scot-free. That would entirely undermine Putin, the military, and Ukraine war effort especially with the unhinged rants Prigozhin made just before the coup.

In hind sight, it made sense for Putin to make a move against him after Wagner was disarmed to avoid bloodshed. Going after Prigozhin right after he backed down would for sure have caused skirmishes if not full on fighting between the MOD and Wagner when tensions peaked. Even if MOD came out victorious, the high casualty count among supposed "allies" would be hugely embarrassing.

Quite a dramatic way to get rid of loose ends, but its Putin in the end. Prigozhin being so nonchalant despite Putin openly calling his coup attempt treason kind of reminds me of this documentary on the mafia, where an FBI agent said that media hypes up organized criminals as Machiavellian masterminds when the majority were just straight up morons or had their heads so far up their asses they didn't realize they were dead men walking.

So Surovikin, easily one of Russia's most competent generals, is out of the job, Wagner's chain of command has been red weddinged. Whole thing straight out of ancient China or any pre-modern political entity where regardless of competence, disloyalty is met with swift and harsh vengeance.

Wonder how Wagner fighters are going to react to this.

Things escalate in a rather faster rate lately huh
Prigozhin dood, wat nou?
The ''coup'' was clearly throwing a ton of **** in the air that would definitively drop back on him and Wagner anyway. Prigozhin is dead or faking dead, whatever....I don't think we will see him again.

A bit more flashy than falling from the ninth floor.

“ Russian state news agency RIA Novosti, citing an anonymous source, reported that Surovikin has been replaced as commander of the Russian Aerospace Forces by Col. Gen. Viktor Afzalov, who heads the main staff of the air force.”

Personally I find this very unfortunate.

Wagner was Russia's most combat-effective unit, and in Prigozhin Russia had found a very potent military leader. Now Putin destroys both to preserve his power. Imagine if Stalin had murdered Zhukov in the middle of WWII.

How can Russia win when Putin keeps on purging its best generals? We never see lunacy like this on the Ukrainian side.
