The War in the Ukraine

This war seems to be really grinding on? I wonder what the end result will look like?

Relations between Ukraine and Moscow are going to be destroyed for a generation or more. So far, it doesn't seem like the Ukrainian people would are willing to accept anything other then full Russian withdrawal. On the other hand, Russia seems to be fine continuing the war at its current pace.

Outside of the two belligerents, NATO members have so far shown a strong appetite to support Ukraine. The war has also expanded NATO to included Finland and likely Sweden as well. Outside of that, member countries are also committing to investing in their production of ammunition and missiles. For example, the US will producing over 1 million 155mm shells per year within the next couple of years.

That is a good point. I think this is the real reason why Russia had such strong reaction on potential F-16 transfer.

I doubt that's the real reason, A Block 50 F-16C is already an outdated aircraft, still using a slotted array planar for a radar. It would have problems detecting cruise missiles and stealthy drones at long range and an AMRAAM would have difficulty locking onto slow stealthy objects at range flying at tree height altitudes. Outdated radars won't help. AMRAAM vs. Geran is an extremely poor exchange in terms of economics that's like sending Ferraris to crash into Toyota Corollas. That is if it can manage to lock into one in the first place.

The real reason is that this level of escalation means the relationship between Europe and Russia won't be normal for decades, which means so will Russia's economic dependency to China and India last as long.

In separate news.

I mean the point about NATO pretending to be piloted by Ukrainians and use their own F-16 for fighting.

F-16Cs are a perfectly capable jet and better than anything the Ukrainians have currently.

The problem is, as explained by UkAF's air commander:
https://www.reddit.com/r/RussianWarFootage/comments/15wgn8o
He also didn't mention ground based Russian air defence, which another can of worms.

The UkAF is up against such overwhelming superiority there's not much a token number of F-16s can change. It explains why the recent was a confirmation that the Ukrainians WON'T be getting F-16s any time soon. The Americans were careful to include the phrase" when the Ukrainian pilots are deemed ready", in other words not any time soon. We all know the reason why, Americans think it'll look bad if F-16s start get shot down like the Soviet jets had have been.

I think the Ukrainians should be given access to the F-16 now, having them at hand with less experienced pilots is significantly better than not having them at all. Even if they are shot down, it's not like the Americans are going to run out of F-16s. All the American decisions shows is that the need to protect the reputation of American equipment precedes the Ukrainian war effort.

We don't hear much about Marinka lately, as the town appears completely leveled, the Ukrainians are not keen on defending it anymore and the Russians are no longer just as keen in taking it over. Instead the fighting has moved to the surrounding areas. Here an M777 gets knocked out by Russian artillery.

The battle of the Russian T-90M "Proryv" tank with the support of two BMP-3s in Ukraine. An abbreviated episode of the attack of the Russian T-90M Proryv tank and two BMP-3 armored vehicles in Ukraine. A mechanized Russian group of the 85th brigade enters Kleshcheyevka and, under the cover of the lead tank T-90M Proryv, carries out a landing from two BMP-3 armored vehicles. After the suppression of the positions of the Ukrainian army and the landing of troops, the tank puts a smoke screen and, together with the BMP-3 armored vehicles, retreats to their original positions. There is no information about the further course of the battle.

You are using the very narrow western media definition of “Ukrainian”. Don’t forget that many of the people of the “separatist” regions did consider themselves Ukrainian up until those questionable referenda. Even if somehow there is a full Russian withdrawal, there would be a terribly divided country.

Not as common but we like to see more posted. This is a LMUR attack from a Mi-28N against a Ukrainian fortification in Staromayorsky. LMUR attacks appear to be conducted from longer ranges and greater heights than Vikhr, and I suspect this might be laser guided.
