Drone attack on Moscow: damaged houses, air defense work, the reaction of the Ministry of Defense
In the early morning of May 30, Moscow and the Moscow region were attacked by drones. According to the Ministry of Defense, eight aircraft-type devices were involved in it. The media reported about 10-25 UAVs. The military department claims that five drones were shot down by the Pantsir-S1 air defense system, and three more were suppressed by electronic warfare. There are at least three damaged residential buildings and two civilians seeking medical attention.
- In Moscow, one UAV hit a house at 98 Profsoyuznaya Street, and another hit a 24-storey residential building on Atlasova Street in New Moscow. At Profsoyuznaya, a drone crashed into the upper floors of a house, the facade and glazing of the building were destroyed, and residents of three entrances were evacuated. On Atlasova Street, as a result of a drone hit, the facade of the house and the glazing of the upper floors were also destroyed. Another drone flew into the house 92 k1 on Leninsky Prospekt. A resident of this house told RIA Novosti that the UAV hit the apartment on the 14th floor, in which there were three people, but there was no explosion and no one was injured.
- The Ministry of Defense claimed that the “Kyiv regime” was behind the attack and called it a terror attack. According to the agency, eight aircraft-type UAVs were involved, all of them were hit. Five drones were shot down by the Pantsir-S anti-aircraft missile and gun system in the Moscow region. Three UAVs were suppressed by means of electronic warfare. According to the Ministry of Defense, they lost control and deviated from their intended targets.
- The only official comment from the Ukrainian side so far has been made by adviser to the presidential office Mykhailo Podolyak: “We are being drawn into the era of artificial intelligence. Perhaps not all drones are ready to attack Ukraine and want to return to their creators.” He denies Ukraine's "direct relationship" to what happened.
- Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that "minor damage occurred" in several buildings in the city as a result of a drone attack. According to the mayor , none of the residents of the houses damaged by the UAV were seriously injured. Two people sought medical attention.
- In the TFR, on behalf of the head of the department, Alexander Bastrykin, a criminal case was opened on terrorism (Article 205 of the Criminal Code).
- Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov praised the work of the Russian military and authorities: “Everything worked properly. They worked well. The air defense system also worked well. It is quite clear that we are talking about the response of the Kyiv regime to our very effective strikes on one of the decision-making centers.”
- Airports in Moscow and the region are operating normally, airport services and air traffic controllers are working “without any special features,” Rosaviatsiya reports.
Sources report that 25-30 UAVs of various types participated in the attack on Moscow. Launches were made from the northern regions of the Sumy or Chernihiv regions, most of the UAVs were shot down on approach to Moscow and in the Moscow region. “According to media reports, a total of 32 drones were counted. 19 were shot down by air defense systems. 10 fell on their own, catching on trees and wires. Three damaged residential buildings,” Boris Rozhin, an expert at the Center for Military-Political Journalism, says on his telegram channel.
