The nerratives of this video sounded very much like words of appreciation for J8's many decades of service before its final departure from active service. Retirement of J8 has been expected for many years now.
The question now is what aircraft types will they be getting after J8 retires.
Japanese F-4s have retired. Korean ones will too soon.
It might simply be a video posted in commemoration of the Hainan Island Incident where the J-8 played a huge role rather than a send-off video.
How many of these older planes does the PLA have in storage? In a major war with US, with large scale plane losses, these older planes could be used to quickly replace lost planes for air defense.
China does have a big disadvantage here. While US has 4th gen planes like F-16 and F-15 in storage, they have J-7 in storage. This could be a decisive factor in a war of attrition where both parties will not have enough time to produce new planes and whoever achieves air superiority first wins the war.

More likely to be a shortage of trained, experienced and non-geriatric pilots than modern aircraft. Both sides will most likely move to UCAVs in a war of attrition.

Yes youcan!!! -just rewatched "Battlefield Earth"(it's awful) and them humans can fly Harriers VSTOL aircraft after 1000 years in storage so I am sure the Chinese can do somewhat better- and can lob MiG15's at those F35s.LMAO- and I am having some red wine with pasta after a hard week- so don't hurt me.
