The Olympic Legacy in China

The Chinese would rather spend money on guns and other military equipment than toilets. Thats the truth right there.

BTW Yehe watch out on what you are typing....moderator might not be pleased. No Politics.

Your statement has a much more political connotation than Yehe's... and also more opinionated and likely to upset someone and spark a nasty argument... you don't want to sound hypocritical.

I am happy that China's olympics went well, but it just frustrates me that how they said they would have protest zones, but that didn't happen and also the human rights is just bugging. As a Christian myself, having 300 Bibles confiscated at the airport saying it is illegal to bring Bibles into China is just ridiculous. The funny thing is, is that in China's Cconstitution clearly states freedom of religion.

An end to the olympics....and everyone is starting to forget about it already.

Well of course it will now fade from peoples minds, the party is over, other events occupy peoples attention and athletes move on to the next meet.

An impression has however been created and it will stick. I wonder now, when news items or documentaries open their reports in Beijing, will they still open with Tiananmen Square and the Mao Portrait or is the Birdsnest the new instant recognition Icon of the city?

well i can say that the olympic is still hot here. Olympic merchandise is still selling well and even used opening ceremony ticket can sell for RMB20,000.

That will last for a short while, but afterwards (few weeks/months) people will start to forget. I saw this documentary introducing China and the olympics, heard that they won't build anymore "wacky and stylish" architectural buildings.

Chinese TV viewers lost, fussy in wake of Olympics
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2008-08-28 09:57

In the three days since the closing of the Olympics, many Chinese viewers who had been glued to the live broadcast of the Games over the past 17 days were feeling lost and prone to whining, according to psychological and educational experts.
Psychologists noted many viewers, who might still be obsessed with the sporting events, were unable to make a quick shift of their daily focus away from the Olympics to their pre-Games routine after the fast pace of the long-awaited Olympiad.

Lin Ye, a Shanghai-based psychological consultant, said clinical experience showed sports fans were prone to undergo a period of depression in the wake of major international sports events, such as the Olympics and the World Cup.

Through watching the same match, TV viewers and their families shared fun and excitement so that their home atmosphere became better; they temporarily forgot about worries in their work, he said.

When the Olympics ended on Sunday, they had to return to normal life and face the worries in their work, but often they were unable to adjust their mood so quickly, said Ye, who called this phenomenon "the Olympic Syndrome."

Psychological and educational experts said white-collar employees and students were among those seriously affected by the syndrome. These groups had often chosen to spend as much time as possible watching the Games by cutting time for sleep and eating.

Yang Xiaowei, a researcher on primary education at the East China Normal University, suggested those affected by "the Olympic Syndrome" could participate in more outdoor activities and make more friends to turn their attention away from TV.

In addition, they should reschedule their time and have more rest, she said.

I don't think they will forget that quick. This olympic will be remmembered for ages and generations to come. Of cource you cannot compare it to the same level of excitement we see in the last few weeks.

As for the stylish and wacky building...I heard guangzhou is building a 610m tall "wacky and stylish" building. Oh and there will be more whacky and stylish building for the 2010 expo in Shanghai. As long as there is money flowing in...whacky and stylish building will still be the trend.
