Re: The Grand Pubah Speaks!!

Gents one that that really bugs me is the use of text message abbreviations. I despise that. Why? Three reasons.
1) I despise them.
2) I truly despise them.
3) I really despise them.

The following is taken directly from the forum rules long before I was anointed a moderator.

Use only understandable English with out the use of slang that prevents someone with lesser language skills to understand.

Abbreviations such as those used when sending text messages are not permitted. Such as lil, ur, ppl hrd, etc..etc... You know what we mean. LOL and LMAO are permissible.

All rules of moderation apply to a foreign languages as well. Also as we are international community, DON'T make points about someone's lack of English skills. This is a rule that requires patience from all of us.

DO NOT RESPOND TO OR QUOTE THIS POST!

Mods note >>> As you longtime members know political discussion is not allowed in this forum. I have allowed political discussion much more this year to see how it would work. I feel that many members are posting in the parameters of the rules..but sadly many are not. Some members seem to have an out right hatred of the west or anything western. The same goes for the trolls that join SDF to bash China. I do not want SDF to be turned into a hate fest. Haters beware...I'm putting the hammer down on this political BS. I will not allow SDF to turn into mp.net junior.

For those of you that think I'm unfair..read the rules..

FORUM RULES: Things to Remember Before Posting, important, please read!

And read the banned list..

Re: The Grand Pubah Speaks!!

About me.. I've never disclosed my full US Navy career in this forum. I get some questions about that in my PMs & in the threads..so.. I hope this answers all. Feel free to ask questions..

I served with the USN from August 1971 until August 1991. I joined the USN in Cincinnati Ohio. I went to Boot camp at Great Lakes IL(Chicago)

After training at NATTC Jacksonville and Memphis TN. I served during my first enlistment on the following ships;
USS John F Kennedy(72-73)
USS Midway(73-74)
USS Hancock(74-75)

I was then station at NAS Cubi PT in the Republic of the Philippines.(75-77)

Next I was with three squadrons at NAS North Island in San Diego;
HSL-31(77-80)
VS-33(81-82)
HC-11(83-85)

While with VS-33 in 1981 we were deployed on the USS America with CVW-11 from mid January to November of that year..in the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Indian Ocean.

After HC-11 I was stationed at NAF Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.(85-86)

From 1986-1991 I was with NAS Miramar AIMD San Diego. During my last year at Miramar I was assigned to AIMD SEAOPDET and was deployed on the USS Nimitz from January 1991 to July 1991 to the Pacific, Indian Ocean and Persian Gulf.

I was an enlisted man. I spent 11 years as an Aviation Ordnanceman and 9 years as an Aircrew survival equipment man.

Dear Petty Officer Hamm

As your long and distinguished career draws to a close, I wish to take this
opportunity to formally recognize the tremendous contributions you have made
in the defense of your country. Those of us in the Navy who are frequently
called away from our families and loved ones in the course of a military
career make a very special sacrifice in the interest of freedom. It is with
those thoughts in mind that I commend you on behalf of your countrymen for
twenty years of faithful, steadfast, and loyal service in the United States
Navy.

Your military career began on 25 August 1971 when you enlisted in the United

No carriers were ever attacked off Vietnam. Even though the NVAF had that capability. And as an enlisted man E-6 with 20 years I had to retire by 22 years and believe me I was ready. I retired with 20 years and 6 days of service.

look like carrier is the safest vessel of a navy. I think pilot and airplane are too expensive for NVAF to loose

No I was not. I missed that buy a year. But in actuality most of Top Gun was filmed at NAS Miramar and in San Diego. The former Naval Training center in San Diego was also used in the film also NAS North Island..

Also my shop the AIMD Paraloft was right next to Top Guns hangar. Some years ago Top Gun moved to NAS Fallon NV.

The final seen when Cruise arrives back to the ship was actually filmed with real USN extras on the flight line at NAS Miramar next to our shop. Most of the sailors that welcome Tom Cruise back from his mission were assigned to the Black Knights of VF-154. Why? Because at that time VF-154 was sharing a hangar with top gun. Why they did not film it at sea I do not know.

That movie has a lot of inaccuracies but I love the opening...
