And how many IDFs can 3 to 5 billion USD buy?

The F-CK-1 has been out of production now for 10 years, it would be expensive and time consuming to restart the production lines, rehire several key people involved in production that have since left AIDC, order new F125 engines from Honeywell (which hasn't produced a new F125 in about 10 years as well), order additional TC-2 kits from Raytheon, and order more GD-53 Radars from GE along with a myriad of oter electronics. After all the key components have been secured, it most likely will need several key US lawmakers ok'ing the sale, and only then can production start. All of this could take years and be very expensive.

The best outlet (that s not only my opinion!): the whole 60 Mirages 2000-9 fleet from the UAE.

Cheapest because second hand but fully refurbished; fastest because they would be available in a couple of months, and last but not least, superior to the F-16 C/D. (optional: black Shaheen Storm Shadow cruise missiles - ref. Tornado GR4, Italian Tornado IDS, Eurofighter Typhoon, Nimrod MRA4, Mirage 2000, Rafale and F35). :p

Trust me, these Mirages 2000-9 would be a gold nugget for any Airforce around the world! :D

The UAE needs China's help when dealing with Iran.

The UAE needs China's help when dealing with Iran.

China doesn't have that sort of leverage with Iran. If any one country can do something about Iran it's Russia. If China vetoed sanctions against Iran because of the UAE it would strain relations with the UK, France, UK and even Russia.

Question is, is Taiwan even interested in those Mirages? If not the discussion's academic.

Who do you think is developing Iran's oil and gas fields nowadays?

What is interesting is that, Former Defence Minister and Air Force General Tang Fei said that to maintain and fly the Mirage fleet, it costs 90 million NTD for every flight hour. Probably the reason why most people prefer the F-16s - cheaper to maintain, easier to maintain, compatibility with software/hardware.

The only thing that WOULD MAKE THIS NEWS INTERESTING is to compare the same things, just all together!
Giving figures like this, means absolutely nothing to my eyes. He should give us more details. :coffee:

So, my questions are why this former General gave this unverifiable news?! Is he also pushing a US deal? Does he also have ties with US military business ???... :D

Conclusion: in a "world" full of retro-commissions (...), that pretty hard to analyse/compare costs and expenses. :nono:

Well, he said Mirages are costly. But facing intruders like J-10 or Flankers, I rather prefer to pay more instead of having the cheaper F-16 A/B in front of them, if you know what I mean...

The question of maintenance cost is of course very important. But the big question is: Does Taiwan can afford any deal with US or french for a new generation aircraft like Rafales/F-35/(something else) if some Generals say that part of the maintenance of this actual fleet is "costly"?

And what does the President MA want for his ROCAF, preparing the next decades, while RP China will be spreading its own AESA radar over the RP AF fleet?
