I've said this to a few Taiwanese commentators (elsewhere) and I will say this again: essentially this is suggesting to build modern torpedos. They are unmanned, can be guided or self-guided, will be used for "suicide missions". As long as they are advanced and sophisticated enough, they fit every description people have for "drone subs" save for multiple attack capabilities (which drive up the cost like crazy).

I don't think 24-26 smaller submarines would have that much of a larger crew requirement (not to mention that sinking one won't result in a 12.5-16% loss of your entire Order of Battle).
And since they're going to be in the Taiwan Straits, endurance shouldn't be a problem.

Given today's Cold War 2.0 reality, Washington D.C. can greenlight the F-35A sales anyway, and all things considered, gauging today's queue, Taiwan won't be getting their first squadron of F-35A before the end of 2020s, unless the US willing to chop some of its own allotment for Taipei.

Given the local security issues and indigenous designs that Taiwan partakes of from time to time as well as on the ground political landscape it will be a fourth gen F16V.
Although F35B would be a major boon to the ROCAF, the proximity to the mainland makes it a security nightmare. All it would take is the Unification party to pull of a legit election and the US would have just handed those Panthers to China.
F16 remains the safer bet.

To be honest, I am very confused of Taiwan’s political environment, especially the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). Although they verbally claim to be anti-Mainland, their actions have been for the most part beneficial to the Mainland... most of what they are doing is to sabotage Taiwan economy and to damage Taiwan’s image on the international stage. Almost everything the DPP has done have been to convince the common Taiwanese that being close to the Mainland is beneficial to them. Sometimes, I think the DPP might be undercover agents for the Chinese CCP...

I don't think the MSS has to do anything to get this Taiwanese parliament and government band of mayhem started. This type of disorganization is what many in the west would like to see happen in the mainland.
It's NOT the system of government but rather the real leadership and effectiveness of that governing body to enhance the country's welfare that counts.
