Wow, they just killed US United States Ambassador to Libya. And yet, they still want regime change in Syria, don't they realize once Syrian government falls the same thing will happen?

The enemy of my enemy is NOT my friend.

The game might be more complicated. The Salafists are not one uniform group and anyone could have stagged that incident using some patsies. A film made in the USA by Egyptian Copts insulting the Muslim prophet is a call for an armed strike that forces the US to strike back at the Salafist. Such an orchestrated clear chain of events could be seen as a complicated, but clever, Coptic Christian self-protection campaign that at the same time helps the involved Salafist groups to shed the mantle of US-mercenaries. I guess, even the slightest suggestion of such a position had caused much ill-will among their international brotherhoods.

Christian Science Monitor has an article about this matter:

This is the caption with a photograph about the article:
The Pentagon has ordered two Navy destroyers to the Libyan coast. Officials said the ships, the USS McFaul and the USS Laboon (seen here), which carry Tomahawk cruise missiles, did not have a specific mission, but they give commanders flexibility to respond to any mission ordered by the president.
Do they think the US is preparing to bomb Benghazi?

It reminds me of what the Good Book says:
Those who live by the sword shall perish by the sword.
The ambassador had won his promotion by his work with the insurgent in Benghazi in the war against Gaddaffi.

My Dutch Newspaper, NRC, publishes today an article by its correspondent in Turkey that says that the Turkish government didn't see that President Assad was supported not only by Syrians of the Alawi sect to which he himself belongs but also by a broad group of secular Sunni Syrians ( as well as of course Kurds, Christians and other minorities ). Continuing as they are now the government does great damage to the Turkish economy and would endanger the stability of the country. Changing tack would cause horror in Western capitals and in the Gulf countries. What is it to be?

It is now clear both sides are wrong, it is also now clear that the revolution has been hijacked by extremist organisations trying to push for their agenda who do not give a monkeys about the Syrian people

It is now too late to help the free Syrian army, we now have terrorist organisations inside Syria who have weapons and lots of money

The Allies decided during WWII which groups to support and which not.
It would be possible to select allies for Western backing and agree on a dual approach: stronger engagement for select armed allies who do pursue an agreeable policy of democracy and negotiations with the government on a peaceful settlement from a strong military position. In Libya someone just opened the coffers because the whole thing seemed so groundshaking.
That should be a lesson learned, "be quick to think and slow to act" and revolutions are the results of many revolts that can last for more than a lifetime.

Turkey really shoot their own foot in this, of course US and Europe want to mess up the Middle East for their own interest, it was Turkey's fault that they didn't examine the consequence closer, because when all said and done, the mess is in Turkey's own backyard, even if the Syrian government fall or not, there will be a bunch of Islamic dudes fully armed courtesy of US, Europe and Turkey. Epic faceplam for Turkey.

US and Europe can just pull out anytime they want if things are not going according to plan, aka Iraq, Afghanistan 1980s and NOW.

You reap what you sow, I have no tears for Turkey whatsoever, you reap what you sow.

I don't think that is a nice thing to say to a country which has taken so many Syrian refugees and lost its own soldiers for Syria

Turkey has almost in excess of 250 F16 fighter aircraft, 7 x KC 135 tankers and 4 x 737 AWACS enough to establish a no fly zone on its own

If it so wished they would wipe the sky's clear in a matter of hours and clean up the Syrian military, it will be a clean up operation

Just because Turkey does not say anything doesn't mean it can't, Turkey has limited patience and are civilised people the day Turkey decides enough is enough Syrian regime will no longer be, does Syria really think they can harm Turkey? They must be kiddin themselves

Turkey has the second largest army in NATO and a 1 million man standing army, Syrian military will be nothing against a Full scale Turkish offensive

Why are you suddenly comparing Turkey military hardware between Turkey to Syria? Where did in my post did you get the idea that Syrian military can win a conventional battle?

I am talking about Turkey supporting the plan of "regime change" without looking at the consequence that will results in the aftermath, that is a bunch of crazy dudes armed with NATO supplied weapons causing problems for everyone, ESPECIALLY at Turkey's own backyard. As it have shown in Iraq and Vietnam, you can't defeat dudes with AK-47 with jets and submarines.

Ok I misunderstood your post

Iraq the situation died down after the Iraqi people were fed up with the conitnued violence and decided to do something about it and Vietnam and Afghanistan contains guerilla warfare which requires foreign supply and training

In Syria there is just weapons and money coming in from sporadic sources there is nothing organised that could withstand a modern military force and they only have one entrance and exit point, and that is the Iraqi border which in turn relys on Iran

Without external interference the war inside will go on and on, the international community must come together to resolve the Syrian situation and the Arab league is certainly not be of them, neither is any Western nation and no Muslim country's have a united force which can be deployed so that really only leaves Turkey

And all the while Syria tears itself apart Israel is sitting watching it is happy session for them right now
