Interesting how Andor is the most British of Star Wars that you have British people choosing The Mandalorian over Andor. Why? Because The Mandalorian has elements and people fans want to remember. You can chuck Andor out of the Star Wars universe and people won’t notice.
If you’ve been watching the second season, the first three episodes involve Andor stealing a Tie Avenger. Sounds great but most of it involved Andor being on Yavin, before it became a rebel base, trying to transfer it to someone but he instead comes across a bunch of young misfits (all human) who hold him prisoner while a very British petty "civil war" brews amongst them. We also follow Bix still suffering the trauma of her experience in the first season. Then we watch the wedding of Mon Motha’s daughter. There’s an overly extended intermixing scene where there’s a long sequence of just Mon Montha dancing with Andor escaping his captors. When something like that happens usually one plays off the other. It doesn't. It's just a gimmick.
What I see as the problem with Andor is it follows too much around regular people and what happens to them personally in their lives. Is this the legacy of Ronald Moore's Battlestar Galactica where it was all just about the personal trials and tribulations of the lives of the characters after experiencing a holocaust? We want to see people fighting not people whining. Star Wars is epic. Andor seems out of place. Tony Gilroy, the showrunner, said he didn't want to make a show that was just fan service to Star Wars fans. Did they really have to go to Yavin if it wasn't just fan service? There was nothing about the Rebel Alliance there except it was a recognizable name in Star Wars lore. It could've taken place anywhere else. Why do we care about Mon Motha's daughter's wedding? Did it play a role in the rebellion? Then there was a scene that broke a traditional Star Wars trope... a stormtrooper that can shoot straight.
I'm still hoping on hope that this will end spectacularly. What can I say was good so far? When Krennic shows up, he has a presence of Darth Vader among the civilians but we know he's just a power hungry weasel around the big players. The big one is the mystery behind Luthen. Is he a former Jedi or Sith? That would make the show Star Wars.
