You can interpret anything into anything in science fiction. I've heard people say of Star Trek Deep Space Nine as being an allegory of the most obvious regarding the Jews and Nazi Germany. I've heard Palestinians make the allegory of themselves with Israel. You can make it about Tibet and China. Science fiction has always been about a reflection in the future of today.
Wandering Earth was too safe for me. The world could never get together for such a task. The United States and the West was hardly in the conversation and you just look at petty politics domestically and internationally, they would've been against it simply because they weren't in charge and didn't make all the decisions. How about the US was basically stuck on the cold and dark side of the Earth. The US would've gone to war over that. Anybody see the last season of The Clone Wars? The middle part had story that centered on two characters that were obviously Latinas. The alt-right fanboys who hate wokeness made a huge fuss over that story arc but didn't say exactly why...? It's because to them it was absurd to see Latinas in space. Everyone knows white people will be dominating space... In reality the Chinese will be occupying space more than anyone else. Write that in science fiction and they won't like that either. The West thinks they're the good guys and they're the honest brokers. No, just look at how angry they get when China does something in space without their permission.

So what is Japanese scifi like and can I get some recommendations. I prefer live action and not anime, and not Godzilla

Sorry mate, Japanese scifi is mostly anime. I suppose you could check out some live-action adaptations of those anime, but they'll mostly be typical Hollywood fare.
Unfortunately, they only do live action adaptations if they think the subject matter will be profitable, so they water down a lot of the stuff.
I think the Koreans did a live-action version of Jin-Roh:
However, apart from the aesthetics, there wasn't much that was faithful to the original anime.

If it is Japanese sci-fi it has to be manga and anime. Their live action is typically a bit stale IMHO.
I would suggest Planetes, Ghost in the Shell, Steins;Gate, Cowboy Bebop.

I agree with Psycho-Pass. As for MSG I would rather watch Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin. If you like these late 70s Japanese series rehashes I would also advise watching Macross: Zero, or Star Blazers 2199.
