SSN-21 Seawolf Submarine
The most faster, quiet and powerful, 2 based to Bremerton, Washington rattached to Submarine Development Squadron 5.
Exist also a third USS Jimmy Carter (SSN-23), a subgroup, more big, 30 m longer than the other two Seawolf for highly classified missions and testing of new submarine systems.

As Seawolf rattached to Submarine Development Squadron 5 but homeported to Bangor.

Russia :
7 Project 971 Shchuka B, Akula I/II
1 Project 971 Shchuka B, Akula III

The draft nuclear submarine attack due to the combination of very advanced automation projects 705 ALFA and of the first serious attempts to reduce the acoustic signature projects started with 671 and RTM RTMK VICTOR III solutions (12 to 15 dB under this project for the first units). It is also known as version "steel" 945 SIERRA project that has him, a tough titanium shell.

1 Project 945 BARRAKUDA, Sierra I

This submarine is the equivalent of 971 project, but with a hull in titanium , and that is why it weighs only 8200/8500 t max Sierra I/II against 12800/13400 for Akula's.
USRR is the only country to have build submarines with a hull in titanium : Alfa, Papa and Sierra titanium very difficult to weld must not oxygen. And only country to have commissioned SSN with a liquid metal cooled reactor, Alfa, if the metal is to freeze the reactor is fatal that is what happened at the firstAlfa, never returned to service, USN have only test this technology, with this we could have a powerful reactor while being small enough.

2 Project 945A KONDOR , Sierra II

4 Project 671RTM Shchuka, Victor III

With ofc 6 unusual SSGN project 949A ANTEY , Oscar II and 1 Yasen Pr 885, GRANEY

If it is possible Forbin could you delve deeper on everything the SeaWolf Class is and does and everything about it. I've always been so fascinated by it. But Wiki doesn't say much. Is one always on patrol, what are the missions like, etc. I always thought of it as in the league of small uber expensive classes of America's arsenal. Like for fighters the F-22 only built like 190 of them. For bombers the B-2 only 22? were built and Zumwalt only 3 will be built, and subs the SeaWolf only 3 were built. I don't know if I'm missing something. But thanks. Would we be better off now and later, if we had built the initial number of all of them I always ponder that.

IMHO, India needs a second Akula.

That way they can always have one available for escort duties.

Are there any firm schedules and dates for that second Akula coming to India? Links?

the INS Chakra is just out of a three month refit.thats important info.i think.

they might buy one more akula from russia,

but none of their home built submarines is likely to be SSN's, they are more likely to be SSBN's.
a couple of years ago the navys designing group proposed small attack scorpenes with nuclear power plant, simillar to the ones being built by Brazil, but the navy refused saying that they wanted SSGN's .

the arihant class (you may also call them Kilo class SSBN's considering their ancestry can be traced to INS Sindhukirti )considering their small size is likely to give rise to SSGN's though with a more powerful propulsion system.
INS Sindhukirti which was under refit for almosts a decade and whose refit got over just a year within which the Arihant will go for trials
