When timed right, they can be really effective and get a KO by hitting the opponent when he's least expecting it. The right timing, however, is almost always going to be through a feigned retreat or at the end of a flurry when the opponent moves in to counter thinking the combo is over with both the attacker's arms in positions that are inconvenient for more straight forward striking. This guy... I don't know if he suffered from too many head strikes (I'm actually impressed he's still standing after so many clean headshots) but he's trying to throw them as stand-alone attacks, which almost never work because the initiating turn telegraphs the attack direction making a spinning back fist much slower and more obvious than just a frontal strike and on top of that, he's losing his balance and going all over the place. He's not an amateur; he's a champ so I'd have to assume Liu's early head punches, although insufficient to KO him, retarded his combat IQ. He's fighting like a newbie who just saw a Youtube clip of a spin backfist KO so he wants to replicate it.Why does he keep on doing useless spin attacks?
I never understood why anyone would want to talk trash before a fight and put themselves in this guy's position. Fighting is totally unlike other sports like swimming, running, weightlifting, etc... In those sports, the champion, when in form, can't be defeated by an underdog in a 1 vs 1 scenerio. Lu Xiaojun knows that he's not going to lose to some British bloke who can't clean and jerk Lu's snatch. He's not going to bomb out either because he can lower his weights according to his opponents level until he's barely exerting effort. This is not fighting. In the world of fighting, anyone, even champions, can get knocked out by anyone else in an instant if he makes a mistake or loses focus. So why would anyone want to talk trash and risk putting themselves in the position of having to walk back all that garbage after getting KO'd? Win or lose, you always look better if you spoke with humility before.
