Makes sense those events are big boost to the medal table. One event multiple medals.
No, you only get multiple physical medals; you don't get multiple medals on the table. A team victory is counted as 1 just like an individual victory. You don't purposefully sacrifice one final for another final unless you believed that you'd be fighting for silver or bronze in one but had a chance at the gold in the other.

2 gold medals for China in the pool tonight.

First, Pan Zhanle won in the 100m freestyle final. He was leading through to the final 25m mark, but then started dropping, at one point to 4th place with just meters to go. Somehow it turned out that he was just saving his "nitro boost" for the final few moments.

Then, the women won gold in the 4×200m freestyle relay. Whatever the reason, Li Bingjie's decision to skip last night's individual 200m final paid off, as she powered through the field as the 3rd leg swimmer, lifting China from 5th place to 1st all within her swim, before handing over to Yang Peiqi, who maintained the gap all the way to the finish.

Yes, I wonder why Li didn't compete yesterday. I think she was not feeling well; it's unecessary to conserve energy for today by resting 2 days. It's a 200m, not a marathon. Her split time was enough to win the gold in the 200m. I think it was not planned for her to pull out.
Right now, the US would need to win 14 out of the last 20 gold medals to meet China's 20. They didn't make it to the men's water polo final so it's not the full 21. However, we need to note that of tomorrow's 5 swimming events, we have only 1 guy who has a chance vs all 5 where there are strong Americans in the finals.

Yes, it was perplexing, especially when she worked so hard during the semis, which began less than an hour after her own 1,500m final, to squeeze into the 200m final.

On another note, I've checked all the previous world championships, and the most golds by a nation at a single meet is 23 by the US in 1978.

The coaches decided that the swimmers have give up their events, just to conserve energy for the relays. They want to make sure they could win the relay. For some reasons they think relays are more important.

Why did oz drop down so much? Stopped doping after accusing China of doping and now can't compete?
They have a decent size contingent for this championship actually, even brought their drug cheat Shayna Jack. She totally got benefit of doubt treatment and nobody mentioned her doping scandal. If it was Sun yang or Efimova the Russian swimmer, it would be a different story.

having said that, their stars are back home preparing for the OG in Paris. Competitive Swimmers usually taper their training schedule to peak at the right time, and for this year the biggest competition is the OG. So many didn’t bother to turn up for this meet.

Not really, the most important consideration is still chances of gold then after that chances of a medal.

My take is yes, the coaches take into account Li Binjie individual and relay races are only a day apart if she goes hard in her first event it might affect results of her second event. But importantly 200m individual isn’t her strong event. gold was always Haughey‘s to lose. Whereas 200m free relay China is the fave for gold. IMO, I think she should still have gone for both, with many of the big guns missing in this meet, Li have a medal chance in the 200m individual. But her coaches know her physical condition better than me , maybe they decided the conservative decision is the way to go.

Speaking of Haughey she is definitely a talent. her combination of swimming freestyle and breaststroke in elite competition is very unusual. It’s usually either free plus butterfly or free plus backstroke cuz breaststroke swimmers are very specialised. And she actually did well earning gold and bronze. I’m impressed. If China could include hk swimmers, their combined relay team would be even more formidable
