Cavitation is the water boiling at the reduced pressure on the suction side of the prop. It can be eliminated by turning the prop slower but also by diving deeper. So you can, as far as cavitation is concerned, travel at a good speed if you are deep enough.

the inability to reduce the noise to Western level may be due to something simple -- bearings. China simply lack the technology to manufacture bearing to the same tolerance as the best Western and Japanese ones. Since there is lots of place where bearing is used, noise and vibration builds up.

This is a ludicrous response, as I am NOT the one claiming to have greater knowledge than the others here due to my line of work, but Hendrik IS, so why in the hell are you asking ME to spill the beans? Can your bias be any more obvious?

I have to agree with mystere here. Hendrik was the one who claimed to work on a "similar tech", not mystere. I also want to know what "similar technology" hendrik works for.
