South Korea plans to buy more Taurus missiles after North Korea's new nuclear test
South Korea plans to buy more Taurus air-to-surface missiles that can strike North Korea's nuclear and missile facilities, military officials said Tuesday. South Korea commissions sixth Incheon-class frigate ROKS Gwangju
The Republic of South Korea Navy has commissioned its sixth FF frigate, named ROKS Gwangju, the country’s arms procurement agency announced.

According to a report by the South Korean news agency Yonhap, the new frigate is expected to start patrols in March next year after it completes operational sea trials.

ROKS Gwangju is the last of six 2,300-ton frigates. Launched in August 2015, the frigate has a crew of 120 and is capable of reaching a maximum speed of 30 knots.

South Korea has already launched the first FF-II frigate ROKS Daegu. The second-batch frigates are bigger than the FF frigates displacing 2,800 tones.

FF-II frigates will be equipped with a 16-cell Korean vertical launching system for defense against air threats and six torpedo tubes for anti-submarine warfare. DSME, the shipbuilder in charge, said Daegu would delivered to the Navy in 2017 and is expected to become operational in the second half of 2018.

The new frigates South Korea is building are replacing the nation’s Pohang-class corvettes and Ulsan-class frigates.

Good-for-nothing (aside from Norks) warship. Batch II looks much better and batch III is the point from which Japanese MSDF started their works on the new 3000 tons 'destroyer'. And ASW suite for them is, well, laughable. Not to mention the radars.

But 3 of them lined up in a naval port surely looks good.

Pretty cool design with three stations (two for liquids and one for dry cargo). Too bad that it will be used once in a blue moon. The only times it will be useful will be going to Hawai for training with US Navy, when US Navy will come to the Japanese Sea/Yellow Sea for training with Korean navy and maybe a tour around East Asian ports with Naval Academy cadets (with new training ship instead of regular destroyer put out of line for that purpose which reduces the number of usable destroyers to two knowing that one is usally in the Gulf of Aden).

Good for nothing? With a hanger, gas turbine propulsion, larger gun and double the number of anti-ship missiles, it is far more capable than the Chinese Type 056, which I'm sure is good for "something". Indeed, it seems pretty comparable to what I would like to see in a future Chinese light warship displacing 2500-3000 tons.

It's possible that the ROK Navy is considering something akin to the Virginia Payload Module that could be quickly reconfigured to accommodate either SLCMs or SLBMs. However, a 3600-ton-class SSK would be quite a small platform for such a significant payload.
