If true, this will go head-to-head with TAI's Kaan.

Isn't that KAAN belongs in the F-22 category (heavy-weight 5th-gen) whereas the KF-21 belongs in the F-35 category (medium-weight 5th-gen)? The engines used by them are of different thrust classes.

In the long term you are right. But I believe there is a really long time until Kaan gets his new engines to show its supremacy. Until that time, the capabilities of serial production models seem to be quite close. Maybe (I hope) Kaan's engine development behind the curtains is ahead of what I guess.

There is no if, it is well known that KF21 in its current form is an interim solution, internal weapons bay is always the goal, except KAI determined that they's better to do thngs in steps considerring their experience.

It is also known that KAI and TAI were in discussion of joint effort. It seems that Korean want to do it in increments while Turkey want one step.

According to Turkish side Koreans didn't accept any engineering collaboration and just wanted Turks to be a customer which you can guess was not welcomed.

Also KAI had 20ish years between T50 and KF21 whereas TAI started Hurjet and Kaan nearly parallel. Work styles are just different and it seems going their own way was beneficial for both parties.

South Korea Expands Missile Export Range to 500km for Middle Eastern Clients

South Korea has decided to expand the range of its export missiles from 300 kilometers to 500 kilometers in response to requests from Middle Eastern countries, the Korea Economic Daily reported. This decision comes in the wake of a recent meeting held by the National Security Council, chaired by the Office of the President of South Korea.

Military industry sources indicate that this extension aims to address concerns raised by several Middle Eastern countries about the limited range of South Korea's multiple rocket launchers, including the K239 Chunmoo.

This decision is particularly significant for countries like the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, which have already invested in South Korea’s Chunmoo system. The UAE acquired the system in 2017, and Saudi Arabia has recently purchased and deployed it.

Both KSA and the UAE got the system with TOT..
