Indonesia's KRI Klewang will be officially launch on August 31st and is considered to be the most advanced naval vessel of it's type ever built in the SE Asia region ...

Formal Launching of KRI Klewang will be Held on End of August
24 Agustus 2012

The new 63 metre long vessel is a cutting edge trimaran design that is considered to be the most advanced naval vessel of its type ever built in South East Asia. It incorporates a radical wave piercing hull form for improved seaworthiness and stability, and has been built from full carbon fibre composite materials, utilising the vacuum infusion process and vinylester resin. This method results in a structure that has increased strength, but also offers the benefits of lower operating, maintenance, and lifecycle costs.

In 2009 PT Lundin signed a contract to build a one of the most advanced “stealth” warship for TNI-AL (Indonesian Navy). This was the result of an intensive Research and Development programme conducted by PT Lundin Industry Invest (North Sea Boats) and TNI-AL that commenced in 2007. Construction commenced in early 2010, but due to the advanced design and construction methods, the project has been kept largely confidential until now.

Good looking ship, any detail? Displacements? Armaments?

New US missile Defense May Include PH - Report

MANILA, Philippines - The United States (US) is already planning an expansion of its missile defense in Asia, including the Philippines.

In a report from the Wall Street Journal, the buildup will supposedly be used to counter threats from North Korea and China.

The report said: “The expansion comes at a time when the U.S. and its allies in the region voice growing alarm about a North Korean missile threat. They are also increasingly worried about China's aggressive stance in disputed waters such the South China Sea, where Asian rivals are vying for control of oil and mineral rights.”

The report quoted Congressional Research Service missile-defense expert Steven Hildreth, who said that the US is looking “longer term at the elephant in the room, which is China.”

The report added that the expansion includes the deployment of an early-warning radar in the southern part of Japan.

The deployment of the so-called X-Band radar there is still being discussed, however. Earlier, both the allies already ruled out the deployment in Okinawa because of disapproval from residents.

As such, “Some U.S. defense officials have focused on the Philippines as the potential site for the third X-Band, which is manufactured by Raytheon Co. Pentagon officials said a location has yet to be determined and that discussions are at an early stage,” the report added.

I don't know why countries wanted to host the missiles facilities. ... the intercptors will not protect the facilities or their host countries against any missiles. just continental US not even Alaska or Hawaii let along these far flung outposts.

This is basically saying: "Hi, could you please do a first strike on your soil, we hate nuclear winter so we rather get glassed then left out in the cold. "

And if you up against any one who has only limited capability (i.e. NK) then who the #$%@ wants to nuke you.

dumb as dumb gets.

Well... remember this verse,

"Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists."

so when I request to set up a missile base in your soil, I am treating you as, you are with me.

Because the Phillippines' government is beholden to America and will do anything for money. Mainly the latter. Uncle Sam makes it worth your while to let him work in your backyard. Also, it serves as a de facto level of promised protection by the United States on the Philippines

Has there been any more on this story? If this is true, it would be a big move for Indonesia and we'd be able to say the arms race in SE Asia is definitely on. I've been suspecting Indonesia is going to majorly upgrade its military for a while now.

JAKARTA, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia launched on Friday the country's first-ever stealth warship for its navy that costs 114 billion rupiah (about 11.9 million U.S. dollars) in its domestic production, local media reported.

Logistic Deputy to Indonesian Navy's chief of staff Admiral Sayyid Anwar said that the missile launcher warship is heavily using carbon fiber in its body, which is incorporated with stealth technology. It has pods to launch missiles with maximum range of 120 kilometers.

"Such a warship is only produced in the United States and Indonesia," Sayyid was quoted by the detik.com as saying during the launching of the warship in the dockyard operated by domestic firm, PT Lundin Industry Invest, in Banyuwangi, East Java.
