On November 07, the Bangladesh Directorate General Defence Purchase (DGDP) released a

for a standardized light armoured vehicle (LAV) platform for command (Comd), ambulance (AMB) and reconnaissance and surveillance (R&S) roles.

The DGDP’s RFP reads: “It is intimated that, standardization of suitable models of LAV (Comd), LAV (R&S) and LAV (AMB) for Bangladesh Army is under process.”

According to the RFP, the Bangladesh Army is seeking a 4×4 LAV platform that can operate in temperature conditions in-excess of 50 °C. The LAV must have a range of over 500 km, with a travel speed of 80 km/h on normal roads and over 25 km/h off-road. It must also have a power-to-weight ratio of over 20 hp/ton.

In terms of protection, the LAV hull is to have minimum ballistic defensibility of STANAG-4569 Level 2, while in terms of mine protection, STANAG-4560 Level 2a. Likewise, the windshield and window glass are to have STANAG-4569 Level 2 protection as well.

The Bangladesh Army is also interested in equipping the LAV with night vision goggles (NVG) for the driver, commander and gunner, for each of which the Army requires be at least third-generation systems. The LAV platform should also be compatible with a weapon turret.

Finally, the Bangladesh Army outlined its preference for scaling its existing logistics infrastructure of radio communication equipment. In the RFP, it stipulates that the LAV be equipped with very-high-frequency (VHF) radios from DICOM (RF 1350), Rohde & Schwarz (XV 3088), Thales (TRC 9210) and/or Aselsan (VRC 9612). In terms of high-frequency (HF) radios, Barrett (PRC 2090) and Reutech (TR 2400) are preferred.

Notes & Comments:

In regards to the Bangladesh Army RFP, Turkish armoured vehicle vendors could have a strong opportunity in growing their business activities in Bangladesh. The auto-manufacturer Otokar has already seen some success for its Cobra LAV line in Bangladesh, but it is not the largest Turkish vendor engaged with Dhaka.

In July, the Turkish company

announced that Bangladesh’s DGDP had awarded contracts to supply 600 modified Dozer-B 4×4 and 6×6 armoured vehicles under the “TURK2”and “TURK3” designations, respectively. Destined for the Bangladesh Police, the first 100 are due for delivery in 2018, with another 150 slotted for 2019. Bangladesh will acquire the vehicles over a five-year period. According to the Turkish defence news publication

, the contract is worth $1 billion U.S.

From the standpoint of streamlining logistics and maintenance, it would make sense for the Bangladesh Army to expand upon the TURK/Dozer-B order. However, this specific RFP requires role-specific LAVs (i.e. ambulance, command and reconnaissance and surveillance), which may result in a different platform.

Singapore deploys LMV on inaugural regional mission in show of platform’s wider capabilities

The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) has deployed its first-of-class Littoral Mission Vessel to Thailand, marking the platform’s debut in a regional multilateral exercise.

The 1,250-tonne warship, RSS Independence (15) will participate in the first Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) multilateral naval exercise (‘AMNEX’ 2017), which will take part on and around Sattahip Naval Base in the Gulf of Thailand from 13 to 22 November.

Independence , which was commissioned in May, is also scheduled to take part in an international fleet review on 19 November in Pattaya Bay as part of ASEAN’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

During its deployment in Thailand, the LMV will have the opportunity to demonstrate a number of concepts for the RSN, including the platform’s ability to be deployed away from its homeport for a relatively extended period of time, and its ability to interoperate with assets of regional navies.

The vessel will also have the opportunity to prove out pioneering concepts found on its integrated platform management system (IPMS), such as a remote health monitoring and support system, which has been designed to allow shore-based engineers troubleshoot contingencies from a distance while the vessel is at sea.

Independence is one of eight LMVs ordered from shipbuilder ST Marine in January 2013. The platform measures 80 m in length, 12 m in breadth, has a hull draught of 3 m, and a standard range of 3,500 n miles (6,482 km) at 15 kt.

PHILIPPINES AIMS TO PROCURE 23 ATTACK HELICOPTERS IN 2018

In a speech, the Philippines’ President Rodrigo Duterte outlined his government’s intention to procure 23 new attack helicopters to bolster Manilla’s counterinsurgency (COIN) capabilities.

Duterte announced that he “will ask military officials to go to different places to negotiate [for the attack helicopters] immediately.” If there are fiscal gaps, Manilla will consider a soft-loan.

. The Duterte government has articulated a policy of maintaining diverse defence suppliers, which could possibly include vendors from China and Russia.

However, Manilla will have to approach other sellers for attack helicopters, which may open opportunities for China, Russia, India and Turkey. In fact, earlier in November, Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) made a

to market the T129 ATAK attack helicopter along with the Anka unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and Hürkuş-C COIN aircraft to the Southeast Asian market. TAI General Manager Temel Kotil said that the company had engaged with regional officials, including those from the Philippines.

It should be noted that the T129 is powered by the same turboshaft engine platform – i.e. LHTEC CTS800 – as the AW159 Wildcat anti-submarine warfare helicopter, which Manilla has on order from Leonardo. This presents the Philippines with the space to streamline its aircraft maintenance infrastructure.

On the other hand, the relative dearth of prospective suppliers of tested attack helicopters could enable China to push for its Z-10 and/or Z-19 platforms. The Z-10 and Z-19 benefit from considerable domestic scale in the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), thus scaling the development overhead that had gone into these aircraft, reducing unit costs and assuring continued development. Moreover, Beijing is in a position to back its defence hardware with credit or financing programs.

Thanks. However, I had already known that name Brahmos indicates a JV (?), using names of two rivers running thru their capitals separately. What I'm asking is the legal binding, i.e. contract, that truly means India won't be able to export without Russia approval (or even the other way around). As I had encountered lots of India defense forum fan boys jumping up & down, talking about its export to such as Vietnam to "counter" China recent movements (which I know it's unlikely as Vietnam already got Yakhont from Kilo deal). But every time I urge for a clear document/contract statement that India can do that at will, these boys simply NOT even utter a reasonable word.

Here for Vietnam :)
Yes they have idea for Brahmos but not the new A air lauched ofc
Yakhont they have it is SS-N-26 land based on TELs for Kilo they have SS-N-27 AShM and the LACM variant but " short range" 300 km not the new SS-N-30 only used by Russia.
Only SSGN Yasen use SS-N-26 no Kilo in the world always SS-N-27.

I use since always NATO designation in more simple for explain and many Klub variants...

Philippine Air Force selects Super Tucano

Embraer announced today, November 30, that the Philippines has placed a firm order for six A-29 Super Tucano light attack and advanced training aircraft. The Philippine Air Force (PAF) will use the aircraft for missions including close air support, light attack, surveillance, air-to-air interception, and counter-insurgency.

According to the Brazilian manufacturer the A-29 was chosen after a “comprehensive public bidding process participated by several manufacturers from around the globe”. The Super Tucano was selected as part of the PAF’s ongoing modernisation plan. The six aircraft will be delivered beginning in 2019 and will be operated by the 15th Strike Wing.

“We are honored to be selected by the Philippine Air Force, our second operator in the Asia Pacific region, and with the confidence expressed by our customer”, said Jackson Schneider, president and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security. “The Super Tucano is the best light attack aircraft in the market and we are confident that it will accomplish with excellence the missions it was selected for”.

To date, the Super Tucano has been selected by 14 air forces worldwide.

On October 25, Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) and partner Embraer secured an order for six more A-29s for delivery to Afghanistan. The deal was placed via the US Air Force’s A-29 Afghanistan Program. Production of the six additional Super Tucanos was due to start immediately in Jacksonville, Florida, and will bring the Afghan Air Force fleet to 25 aircraft, with one aircraft having been lost in an accident in the US prior to delivery.

Embraer announced the sale of six A-29s to a different, undisclosed customer on October 16. Deliveries under this order will be completed in 2018. At the time, it was rumoured that this deal was for the Philippines, but the company denied that this was the case.
