Pictures of a scale model and computer renderings of a new guided-missile destroyer project for the Republic of China (Taiwan) Navy (ROC Navy) emerged last week in the 中国军事中國軍事武器 (China Military Chinese Weapon) magazine. This new destroyer project is in line with Taiwan's new naval acquisition plan which was unveiled late last year. The new plan called for four new destroyers (among other vessels).
Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon has confirmed the navy will buy submarines from China at 12 billion baht each, starting with the fiscal 2017 budget.
PLAN need these Song only other solution sold Ming/035G actualy replaced by Yuan, Bangladesh receive 2 this year.Honestly, I wouldn't think Thailand need Yuan ... perhaps modernised Song would be good enough for Thailand ... perhaps half the cost .. or second hand ex PLAN .. would save a lot of $$$
I think Thailand need Yuan because Vietnam got Kilo, and Myanmar is looking for two submarines by 2019 (in the league of Kilo). We know from the history of mainland Southeast Asia that the relationship among the three are not easy.so, 12B Baht or US$340M each ... not bad, assuming it is AIP and include training and maintenance facilities and parts ... very cheap indeed.
