Normal response. No cigars.

Yeah.. probably announce this news to appease the angry citizens after the bombing. Please don't tell me there were no radars and SAM sites near the border before the incident to track and monitor Myanmar jets. It's not like the the Myanmar war over there just started last few days.

Still no official apology by the Myanmar side, and pictures indicate that Chinese SAM and radars are just now being depolyed - after people already died.

If anything, this is a sad show of the Chinese goverment and military at large.

Jet (or jets) of Myanmar air force entered Chinese airspace and dropped a bomb killing 4 Chinese nationals. Incident occurred fairly far from the border according to the map (more then 100km ) . Questions of course arise about readiness of PLAAF and PLA (both fighters and SAMs ) .

BEIJING, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin summoned Myanmar ambassador Thit Linn Ohn in Beijing Friday night, lodging solemn representations to him after four Chinese people were killed by a bomb dropped by a Myanmar warplane in southwestern Yunnan Province.

The bomb hit a sugarcane field in the border city of Lincang and killed four people working there on Friday afternoon. Nine others were also injured.

Earlier this week, the Chinese foreign ministry said that stray fire from a fight that occurred on Sunday between Myanmar's government forces and a local ethnic army had damaged a house in China.

On Friday, Liu condemned the incident in the sugarcane field and urged the Myanmar side to thoroughly investigate the case and inform the Chinese side of the result.

He also urged the Myanmar side to punish the perpetrator, appropriately handle the aftermath, and take immediate and effective measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents and safeguard the security and stability in the border areas between China and Myanmar.

I never heard of these Kokang people before. Apperantly they are not only ethnic Chinese but they speak manderine of sorts and they are communists... well of sorts.:D

This is an internal conflict of Myanmar and China should stayout. The world doesn't need another Donbass.

I wonder where is Aung san Suu Kyi in all of this. Since she got a power sharing deal with the military she has been very quiet in all these conflicts that Myanmar are engaged in. Not only the Kokang but the Rohingya's, Buddhist attacking Muslims and other conflicts as well. She has almost completely disappeared from the radar screen.

The impression I have of Aung San is that she is also as nationalistic as the military government. There is nothing much she can do other than to leave it to the govt.

Well, we don't have the detail just yet. It's also possible that the PLAAF jets scrambled and intercepted the Myanmar jet(s). and they prevented further damage by the Myanmar jets. It's just that they were not quick enough to stop the first bomb. And 100 km is such a short distance for a fighter jet. The PLAAF had to have jets already in the immediate area to stop that.
