I don't see why it's out of the realm of possibility. It may not get mass-produced, but for R&D purposes it absolutely makes sense to have them.
In fact that's the first time I hear this!
Two J-XDS spotted during test flight. Looks real?
Weren't they flying too close to be real?
I didn't save the video but the air distortion behind the two planes looked identical so I thought it was fake. But it would be interesting if it was true though since Xi is visiting Shenyang these few days.
He’s there because leadership visits regular and impoverished households before Chinese New Year.
It could be both. Also it could be the video was doctored, i.e., there was only one plane, the second was a duplicate.
