3. PB19980515 mentioned that there will be naval variants of the FC-31 other than the carrier-based version, so this most recent test flight might've something to do with evaluations by the land-based arm of the PLANAF.

Not sure why PLANAF needs any non-carrier capable tactical aircraft going forward... I suspect they will find that equipping the carrier air wings and maintaining strategic aviation assets is quite expensive enough.

Korea, Turkey, and India's "5th Gen" planes are still on paper or in the form of models, while the J-31 first flew in 2012. These countries are dependent on American/Russian engines. Iran's Qaher-313, I'm not even sure what that is supposed to be, got any clues? Behind China, Japan is the furthest along with its X-2 Shinshin but it is not the full sized plane, more of a technology demonstrator. Their plan is to use F-35 as a stop gap while in parallel further develop their domestic program into the F-3 fighter, desiring to incorporate sixth gen technologies (5.5 gen?). First flight sometime in 2027, at least that is the plan.

Japan has decided to scrap Domestic Development of 5th Generation Stealth Fighter Jet

so really now only the US, China and Russia .... India might have a prototype by 2030. For Turkey and Iran ... I don't see they would have resources (money and expertise)

PLANAF has always had land-based assets. I don't see why that would change.

Because everything else has changed and will continue to change.

And if you were set on giving PLAN land-based, non-carrier capable tactical aircraft in future, J-20 would be a far superior choice.

Claimed snaps of J31V1 and J31V2 in "dog fight".
Unconfirmed reports say that one of the aircraft was flown by Chinese and other by a pilot from a "friendly" air force, which can be PAF Remember, Pakistan has plan of fifth gen jet prog jointly with China : Project Azam

Unlikely to be true. It's a prototype and unlikely to be near finalised product so won't have weapons or the electronics the final product will eventually get. There's little point in flying this particular plane for PAF unless they're interested in this project. Also why would SAC risk a prototype by letting a pilot who isn't trained on this fighter fly it? A prototype is quite valuable and one of a kind.

To admit I find it funny! :)

He used exactly my collage of images and I posted it on Twitter ... without any additional comment, even the original poster did not mention anything in this regard.

IMO once again with a flourishing phantasy made something up...
