Looks ominous, SAC forging ahead with FC-31. I foresee a great deal of effort on this aircraft being made. It will be a capable aircraft in its category, in the next 5 years.
Yes, and it does appear that there is very little zinc chromate?? so can we assume there is quite a bit of carbon fiber?? it's a very good looking airplane,, it's nice to finally see it getting some flying time,,, China is indeed "upping its game here", and I have no doubt that they are serious about bringing in a 4th Gen fighter fleet, something I hope our US Navy takes note of?? LOL
J-31 is like China took all the lessons from whats wrong with F-35 and corrected it. In the end, this aircraft will cost a fractions of what F-35 cost, and be so much more effective as well.
Notice it has far less bump than F-35, that means better stealth, also notice its not FAT like F-35 means much better maneuverability, and at last it has 2 engines which means MUCH greater room for upgrade and MUCH better for safety in case of engine failure. If there is single engine failure on F-35.... its done, if there is single engine failure on J-31 it can still fly back to base. Also notice the bubble canopy that means the pilots can actually look back at his/her shoulder for greater situational awareness, unlike F-35 the lift fan blocks the pilot views.
J-31 also uses top of the line proven tech like AESA, DAS, EOTS etc... not unproven experiential tech on F-35 like the 400k helmet that does not work in moonless night. Which means J-31 will be just as effective if not more effective than F-35 but cost around 1/3 to 1/2 as much.
And lastly, China don't need freaking STOVL capability on a stealth jet fighter that compromise everything about the concept of "stealth jet fighters"... because you know China can just use.... helicopters...

A U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft assigned to the 18th Aggressor Squadron has been given a black color scheme. Inspired by the Chinese stealth jet or something else?
The U.S. Air Force has just released some cool shots taken during RED FLAG-Alaska (RF-A) 17-3, underway at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska.
Among these, the most interesting one was taken on Jul. 31, 2017 and shows a U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon aircraft, 86-0295, assigned to the 18th Aggressor Squadron: the aircraft, previously wearing the “arctic” Aggressors color scheme is now sporting a brand new overall black livery.
F-16C belonging to the 64th and 18th AGRS have been sporting different paint schemes for decades now. As reported last year, when the 64th AGRS unveiled a new the purpose of these liveries is to make the Aggressor jets as similar as possible to the real threats and put the pilots in training against the Red Air in a similar situation to what they would see during an engagement with the opposing combat air forces.

LOL Doesn't mean anything; they just wanted to paint an aggressive and dominating color on the aggressor squadron so they picked black and red, Darth Maul colors.
