Again, I'm humble to ask for a source and what are included in the package?
Last lot one F-35A want 95 millions $, fly away price " minimum "
For deal include many things support, training, infrastructure/bases etc... you can' t have a exact price based on this impossible.

Remains a thing commercial policy even if Westerns weapons can be more expensive customers which buy in general since long time have the habit they trust especially for after-sales service spares etc.

Russians since long time do good fighters more cheaper but countries are much more suspicious with she, also USA/Western/NATO countries have much more allied than Russia or China enough isolated and new in more for politic military reasons but it is not my point...

the Japanese version is more expensive, because they are assembling the F-35s

I have yet say.

Technicaly both J-31 and F-35A are very similar, size, range, weapons load main differences very possible J-31 more agile but F-35A more stealth, better electronic but delicate F-35A have also a more large panoply of A2G weapons especialy big bombs of 2000 lbs more capable for these mission - in general Chinese fighters carry max 1000 lbs - 2000 lbs remains a power necessary for enough important conflict vs big/hard targets in addition with a weapons bay F-22 style normaly J-31 can' t host 2000 lbs internaly as J-20 ( F-22 also ofc ) so big in diameter for fit inside.

I don't know if the J-31 is more agile than the F-35A until engine change.

Yet F-35A can do better with next block 3F software especialy can push up to 9G now 7.5 max for A, new engine maybe but right now nothing sure.
For design obviously J-31 is a more conventionnal fighter, with larger wings thinking normaly better for agility, 2 engines also.

But sure u going for have a like of Brat haha ;)

I saw this post of a recent update / rumour (via Huitong's blog:

) ... however that original source is dead now.:

Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!

In Summary

  • The PLANAF has not decided which aircraft to choose from, but instead it will decide between "medium sized heavyweight fighters" ... sounds like some sort of fly-off !?
  • There will be two contenders, one from 601 (FC-31 version) and one from 611 (no further info)
  • Therefore there is by now no indication that the FC-31 already has received the contract (as also reported by various sources) but ...
  • It seems that BOTH no. 601 (SAC) and 611 (CAC) institutes have received preliminary "funding" to develop their naval prototypes and none of them already got the final PLANAF contract.
Do You have more or does anyone know the original source?

Of course, as I was the "OP".

What the original "leaker" said (I believe it's the same leaker who started this rumor firestorm) was that he was looking forward to the competition between SAC & CAC for the PLANAF carrier-based fighter tender. The PLANAF requirements involve a "medium-sized, heavyweight" fighter (don't know what this means but I guess it refers to aircraft comparable to the F-35 in size & weight).

So far, it is believed that SAC is submitting a modified (v3.0) variant of their FC-31 while CAC is building its own aircraft for the tender. The original poster has denied that the v3.0 prototype will fly soon or that the PLAN has made its decision to actually procure the FC-31.

On a slightly different note, it has been repeatedly stated (by "angadow", who is apparently a credible poster) that the CAC vs SAC competition will conclude by the end of 2017 and that the PLAN wants to have a next-gen fighter settled and ready within the next few years. Assuming that the above is true, then it means that (1) the competition will involve designs & proposals rather than functioning prototypes, or (2) the actual prototypes will have to fly in very, very short order.

Sorry... did not know that was You !

By the way I do not interpret this rumour as neither a hint pro or against the reports that CAC's design is a J-20-based or completely new one ?
