Right hand nozzle is certainly lighter. So is it just the nozzle or maybe this is testing the WS-13E? But then again why would they want to test a new engine on new prototype?

Maybe they now have enough confidence to stream line the testing process. Their technology testing process won't remain conservative forever. That said, I don't think this is a new engine. Not the first or last time we see identical nozzles that appear to have different colourations. It's entirely possible that one nozzle is just newer than the other, but the engines are identical.

More pics of J-31 v-2 released today . Reminding you that it is rumored for V3 to make first flight in 2 days on 1 June 2017.

Sorry, but You are one day late ! :p

Just look the page before at #4592, #4595, 4597 and 4599 !

Yes, I read these too, but IMO highly unlikely. We did not hear any news of this alleged V3 and I'm sure if there was a maiden flight planned for tomorrow, they must have begun with the taxi-tests already.

IMO this is a hoax.

Exactly, there is NO WAY they are testing two different engines on a very low time, one off prototype, really, no way at all. They are flying their most reliable, tried and true engines, look at the F-35A and T-50 055 fires, they DO NOT want a repeat of these two fiascoes, so everything that can be standard off the shelf is, they have enough to worry about with a development airframe, powerplants are going to be off the shelf.

Same scenario with the J-20, both these birds are very early in the process, J-20 is no doubt flying with some version of the AL-31FN, FC-31 is flying with RD-93s, just the way its done, you take every step to mitigate any risk to that airframe, you saw how long it took the Russians to take 056, and build it with parts from 055, to make the new 055!

Ive not taken attention to this program. Does anyone knows if the j-31 will get into service in the chinese air force, or if it will only be sold abroad? IMO this plane seems to be more stealthy than j-20.

I am really curious about what kind of changes they are going to introduce into V3. Is this the speculated naval variant ?

The configuration of the current V2 prototype gives way to a possible "navalization", the front landing gear has 2 wheels, which simplifies implementation of a release bar for catapult launch compared to J-20. There is a sufficient gap between the 2 wheels of the main landing gear for carrier landing safety. There is more than enough room for a carrier hook.

Remaining changes would be larger wings, of course modified and strengthened landing gear, addition of a carrier hook, and not visible, additional landing aids, strengthened structure.
