Before it can reach the host, one or more nodes (F35) will detect the J20 coming in. That info will relay to others.
what can J20 do a carrier or the host? It doesnt carry any anti-ship missile.

Therefore, the only thing it can do is to destroy the net which requires a large number of stealth fighters. I don't think J20 has enough number to do it.

There are other assets that could do the job if the J20 is not able to, and their reach are all longer than the F-35s.

People seem to have this idea that the PLA should accept something simply because it's cheap. What's wrong with the PLA being highly selective? What's wrong with the PLA wanting only the best? What's wrong with the PLA expecting to get the best they can get with the least investment? This is basically what any individual would do?

Because PLA is overly focused on one to one battle against F-22.
The recent US news about F35 not directly engaged in air battle and instead relay information to the carrier group means PLA original thinking won't work.

quality question aside, PLA needs to field large number of stealth fighters (> 300) to effectively encountering such threat.(Each US carrier can carry 90 F35s, and 2 o3 of them gathering together means 270) I don't think J20 can meet that number.

Need for Stealth fighters quantities >> qualities Now.

How a defending J-20 detect an attacking F-35? Vice verse, how would a defending F-35 detect an attacking J-20? Keep in mind that they are big stealthy. Without being able to detect your enemy, how do you plan to defend?

A stealth fighter is most effective when used in an offensive manner. If there is no offense to do, then don't use it.

How? by coming closer to each other then both of them can detect each other.
J20 coming through a net of F35 will result J20 detecting F35 and F35 detecting J20.

I doubt it can fly through a bunch of F35s and go to carrier undetected.

Most likely, they already be engaging way before that.

You mean like deliberately flying the precious 5-gen fighters directly into a highly elaborate and advanced enemy trap?? And you think that is a defensive strategy? That's suicide!!

That has happened before. It's called the wild turkey shoot.

I need to remind you guys of our SD rules.

No war game scenarios between nations, particularly the US, China, Japan, Russia, etc.

We are drifting too far that way in this discussion.

Yes the F-35 is about sensor fusion and each F-35 being a mini AWACS in the network of node points.

But the J-20 is about stealth itself.

Let's just leave it there as far as naming nation is concerned.

In the end, whomever we speak of, it will all depend on who detects who and can then target based on that obtaining and holding that detection...whatever side or nation.

See...no need to name nations that would be fighting each other.
