Then that implies the PLAAF have a lot of confidence in its projects.

Well if PLAAF committed to a plane then there's a buyer for said plane... so obviously the program will keep going. If no one is committed then you won't get very far.
I'm not quite sure how that's a reply to my post.

If they are confident in revenue, then there's no need for PLAAF support.

In other words, you still need a buyer. If you have no one interested your prototype isn't going anywhere.

Those example aren't entirely new aircraft though, they are modifications over existing ones. Regardless...

The lines between tech dem and prototype are blurry I agree. But any source will tell you that the first F-22 prototype flew in 1997 and was in flight testing until 2002. The YF-22 on the other hand, flew in 1990.

I guess the difference has to do with definitions. The YF-22 was more of a very very early prototype while the 1997 aircraft was closer to a pre-production prototype.

Anyways, maybe not much can be extrapolated there.
It really is a matter of colloquial usage. Functionally they're all prototypes. It's much more about what gets designated the term nominally speaking.

Air intake looks old fashioned. How old is the photograph?

More interesting is that it's a two seater. Looks like a real stealthy F-15SE.

Assuming the drawing is credible, and going by the model's similarity with the picture I'd think it is.

If it looks like that, it seems way more "original" than I thought. Last thing we need is more clones...

the old man in the photo is retired.

this is from 2005ish time frame.

if Shenyang did have a new program (I hope they don't, waste of money and time for a inferior product)
would be a recycled version of their 2005 failed entry, which it self is recycled from the "90s series" designs they did way back when...

Shenyang still in the game just because upper management in AVIC and all the civilian top brass came from Shenyang, and there is a big dose of nepotism going on. I really really really despise that.

Is it possible that that neither the JH-7B or J-16 are going to enter service. The J-19 design looks like a striker to me. There is no reason to develop three striker aircraft.

Could the JH-7B have been rejected because it was not capable enough. Instead SAC could have partnered to XAC and pushed their revised 5th gen design.

Maybe? Lol... We know so little about these planes, or even if they're real, to speculate what powerplays there have been behind the scenes i think.
