Quite the right direction but its indeed not a Tupolev TB-3 (ANT-6) bomber, sumdud.

Nevertheless Stalin had peculiar ambitions with this plane; a specially equipped prototype should fly nonstop over the Pole to the west coast of the US! Unfortunately the engines developed problems and the plane crashed over Siberia without wreckage ever being found.

(Actually Tupolev's long range plane ANT-25 succeeded in this feat landing in San Jacinto, California in July 1937! Hey where were all those McCarthy type ´red scare´ guys during the 30's? Stalin wanting to fly a thinly disguised heavy bomber over the pole to California?? They must have been in deep coma or simply been fully absorbed by being afraid of the even more baddy Germans.;))

Yes that's correct, Costas.

Interestingly the english and also the german wiki have far superior articles about Bolkhovitinov's cruel bird than the russian one. :coffee:
