Russian Navy sinks Chinese merchant ship!

Perhaps some similar things happened in the past and after repeated warning by the Russian border guards, the smugglers ships simply just run away and disappeared in the PRC water.

We all know that too many PRC citizens tend to look the other way when a crime is taking place in front of their eyes.
How many PRC citizens will stand up and do the high-ethical things by simply calling 110 and help the crime victims when they see a crime is in progress??

It is absolutely unwise and idiotic to protect the potential smugglers and sacrifice the PRC national security interest.
The wise PRC central leadership would definitely like to see a strong, prosperous and peaceful neighbor in their backyard. ( Russia in this case )

Hundreds would gather to watch the crime and none would report it, although your example is a bad one because the two situations are totally different.

Note that the Russian patrol boats fire those rounds over the course of several hours, how come the captain didn't stop the ship when the first rounds hit it?

If you have had any education in psychology, you would understand why something like this happen.

If you read news papers, you would know these unfortunate events happen in almost every country.

apparently Russians are trying to blackmail the ship for $330,000 for bad rice. The ship try to run away to avoid penalty. LOL, the Russians are known very well for blackmailing. Energy blackmail on the western front.

The cargo ship was held at the Russian port of Nakhodka earlier this month because of suspected smuggling. But it left without permission on Feb 12 to avoid punishment from importing "poor-quality" rice, Russian media quoted local prosecutors as saying.

Russian officials said border guards had to open fire on the Chinese ship because it refused all efforts the Russian side tried to get it to stop.

Russia asked the Hong Kong-based shipping company for $330,000 as compensation for the import, the ship's operator said on Thursday.

There are a little bit thing I don't understand. The ship is running business of sea transportation. No matter how the quality of the goods they transfer would be the problem between the goods owner and its buyer. What's the concern with the ship?

Russians said the ship has to pay $330,000 for "bad rice" or else not allowed to leave.

I never heard such thing before, being taken hostage over "bad rice"
 Only the Russians can be so creative on blackmailing.

oh come on. merchant chip out running a cruiser, that isn't a valid point. If warning shots were fired then yeah its the ships fault for not responding, but if Russian navy fired without warning directly to the boat its their fault. Also probably communications were cut off on the merchant ship side. More information needs to be given.

It doesn't matter if the whole ship isn't all Chinese, what's important is that the Chinese are angred over the incident. More interesting is that an article

about an agreement to avoid naval accidents just came out on the same day or not long after this incident. The agreement might just be strictly military-military, but it's just quite a coincidence that an "accident" happened between a civilian Chinese ship and the Russian navy/coast guard around the same time. A similar Cold-War triangle between Russia/China/USA might be at play here.
