I don't normally say this but in this case the Russians have the edge. This is the Russian VDV. They were operating in a Joint Serb Ruso training mission

American Airborne are good very damned good but they are light infantry with Humvees. The VDV is mechanized. they have light IFV's. it's paper thin armor but against small arms it's better then nothing and if that is not enough the fire power, a BMD 1 packed a 73mm cannon. BMD 2 and 3 had a respectable 30mm cannon BMD4 had options a 100 light tank cannon or a 30mm auto cannon. there is also said to be tank destroyer under development with a 125mm gun.
the US? no equal. closest they ever had was the Sheridan which was retired because of thin armor and other issues and the M8 light tank which was just never bought. out of that there was FCS but that was supposed to be Army wide. There is the new Mobile protected firepower but that's still paper.
