Complete rearmament on Yars: how intercontinental missiles are put on combat duty in Kozelsk
15.12.2022
The servicemen of the Kozelskaya division of the Strategic Missile Forces have received the necessary training to work with this formidable weapon and are ready to take up combat duty.
Nuclear rearmament continues in the Kaluga Region. Yars-intercontinental ballistic nuclear deterrent missiles-are being loaded into the mines to replace the Poplars. The process is slow, but, as rocket scientists say, there is no need to rush. For safety's sake, even the Yars' transportation speed is limited to twenty kilometers per hour. The rearmament operation is being carried out on the eve of the Strategic Missile Forces Day, which the military will celebrate this Saturday, and in the meantime, officers are being trained to simultaneously take up combat duty together with the Yars.
After a march of more than two hours in strict secrecy, a column of armored vehicles will deliver the Yars intercontinental ballistic missile to a specially prepared launcher, where it will be put on combat duty. The convoy is being sent to the Kozelsk Division of the Strategic Missile Forces. For now "Yars" is in the installer, but very soon a complex, one might say, jewelry process will begin. The military will lower the rocket to a depth of about thirty meters. This work takes several hours.
The shaft hatch opens, which is able to withstand the impact of any high-precision weapon. But it's still a long way from loading the rocket. One of the most difficult stages lies ahead. The combat crew needs to set the unit as accurately as possible so that the rocket descends smoothly into the shaft. To do this, use special devices. The rocket is given the desired tilt angle. At first, the Yars seems to hang in the air, and then the loader is slowly moved to a vertical position.
"The next combat missile will be put on duty as planned. The Motherland will receive another sample of nuclear missile weapons, which will allow us to solve any important tasks at the strategic level", said Alexey Sokolov, commander of the missile division.
"Yars" nuclear intercontinental ballistic missile deterrent. This is a weapon of the XXI century, which replaced the Topol missile system. Fast, powerful, and maneuverable. It is capable of repelling any aggressor. The range is about 12 thousand kilometers, and its deviation from the target is no more than 150 meters. For foreign missile defense systems, the missile is unreachable. When the Yars is approaching the target, it splits into multiple guided warheads. A lieutenant named Vadim is one of those who participated in the loading of the Yars. He just graduated from the Strategic Missile Forces Academy this summer and is already supervising such serious work.
"There is excitement, but it does not interfere with work. I feel proud for my country that it puts such products into service so that the Motherland can sleep in peace", said Vadim Vyazovsky, an engineer of the calculation.
In the Kaluga region, where the regiment is stationed, rearmament for "Yars" is in full swing. A few days after loading one of these rockets, another Yars is preparing to go on combat duty. In a week's time, these officers will be in control of the installation, on combat duty deep underground - in the central command post of the missile forces. In the meantime, they prepare in the training building.
"We were retrained for the Yars complex. Compared to the previous complex, it is new and modern. Before going on duty, we pass a psychological test, work out the standards", shared the division commander Artem Ignatiev.
The military unit has successfully retrained rocket forces engineers. They can correctly and safely use this military equipment. In addition, new infrastructure is being built in the Kaluga Region to improve the life of military personnel.
