The ship was 40 years old and never got upgraded. If it was decommissioned they would have removed the weapon systems for scrap, and scrapped the hull. In the US, and other countries, they often just sink the empty hull to make artificial reefs because it is cheaper than to pay for someone to break it down. If it had substantial fire damage it was better just to let it sink.

The most modern single barrel A-192M gun with stealth cover has same fire rate as this older twin barrel gun. The single barrel CIWS this uses was replaced with twin barrel Kashtan in late Soviet period. And Kashtan got replaced with Pantsir-M recently. The large revolver air defense missiles this uses were replaced with VLS Redut. The Osa was replaced with Shtil and that was made obsolete with quad-packed missiles in Redut cells. The P-1000 Vulkan was replaced with P-800 Oniks and that is being replaced with Zircon starting this year. Yes this ship is that old.

Every single system is by this point at least two generations old. There is nothing to salvage here really.

Russia reported the ship sank. Likewise, when it sank, it was supposed to be stormy.
Well, apparently Russia is not amicable to the truth then, because NPR reported that the conditions in the Black Sea at that time were mild.

"Russian defense officials said later that the vessel sank while being towed to shore in stormy weather, though weather reports indicate that conditions on the Black Sea were mild."

Maybe when it sank the weather was milder. But when this started I heard a lot of people claim the ocean was stormier than usual and that it was raining. The prediction for weather in Ukraine late that week was heavy rain. Remember how they said that Russia would not attack in Donbass that week because the rain would turn the ground into mush? Too much mud for tanks they claimed. And now people say the weather conditions were "mild" when this naval incident started. Yeah right.

Why do you think HI Sutton showed you radar satellite pictures and not actual satellite photographs back then? There was heavy cloud cover in the area. Was what I heard.

Reports from Kalingrad indicate that naval infantry units have been embarked onto Zubr LCAC(s) in an effort to intimidate Finland in anticipation of their landmark decision to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization [NATO].
Proper word is "deter", used by the USA every occassion.

Intimidate used for the evil enemies, the majestic and honourable USA policit deter . : )
